The Fall 2018 issue of the Catalyst magazine has been mailed to all alumni with valid addresses in the United States. If you didn't get a printed copy but would like to receive future issues, please provide us with  your current mailing address . We had too much news to fit in 32 pages, so please check out the  expanded online version .





Roger Miesfeld to Co-Chair UA HLC Steering Committee
 
CBC Department Head and University Distinguished Professor Roger Miesfeld has accepted an invitation from Interm Provist Jeff Goldberg to co-chair the UA's Higher Learning Commission Steering Committee with Regents Professor Barbara Mills of the Anthropology Department.
 



Homecoming 2018
 
Please join CBC and the College of Science for Homecoming on Sat., Oct. 27, 2018. CBC students will present a free Science "Magic" Show for all ages at 11 am, and the College of Science will host a pre-game Tailgate Party starting at 5:30 pm.
 



 A Tribute to the Life of Henry Koffler
 
Please join the University of Arizona for a tribute to the life of Dr. Henry Koffler on Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 from 3-5 pm at Crowder Hall, Fred Fox School of Music, 1017 North Olive Rd.
 



2019 Homer C. & Emily D. Weed Lecturer Announced
 
Dr. Adriaan Bax, a National Institutes of Health Distinguished Investigator at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, will present the 2019 Dr. Homer C. and Dr. Emily Davis Weed Lecture in Chemistry in February 2019.
 



Kaitlyn Susa Selected as 2018-19 Legacy Scholar
 
The UA Alumni Association has awarded 10 renewable merit-based Legacy Scholarships to entering freshmen such as Chemistry major Kaitlyn Susa, for the 2018-19 school year based on academic excellence, leadership and service.
 



Jakob Trammell Selected as Sept 2018 Outstanding Student
 
Sydney DiCarlo nominated Jakob because he helped her transition into her freshman year of college.

Jim Gillard (MS in Biochemistry, 2010) I am currently Chief of Staff at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson until July of 2019. I'm also Chairman of the Arizona Medical Board until February 2019. I am planning to retire in 2019 after 40 years of Emergency Medicine and dabbling in Biochemistry through some medical research projects. 
Wayne Wesolowski (PhD in Chemistry, 1971) Wayne and Mary Cay Wesolowski celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and the baptism of their first grandson, Anton James (AJ). Wayne says he loves being retired after 41 years of teaching.
Josephine Uong (BA in Biochemistry & BS MCB, 2018) I decided to take a year off of school, and I plan to apply to pharmacy school for the Fall of 2019. During my year off, I plan to continue working at the retirement home in Phoenix and on becoming a pharmacy technician trainee.
