INTRODUCING CLAIMS COST SUMMARY
NEW ON WSCC CONNECT

We're expanding our online services! Employers can now access their claims cost summary on WSCC Connect whenever they need it.

What is a Claims Cost Summary? It's a report specifically created for employers that shows financial information about any WSCC-accepted claim. It summarizes the medical, rehabilitation, and pension costs for each individual claim, and provides a total employer cost.

Why should you look at your Claims Cost Summary? It allows employers to examine their safety record, determine any trends in reported injuries, and prioritize helping workers return-to-work. Previously, Claims Cost Summary reports were mailed out to employers at specific points in the year. By moving this service online, employers can now receive their most up-to-date information any time they want it, as often as they want it and use it to help analyze their safety record and compare across years. Do you have a WSCC Connect account yet? Sign up for one today!
ANNUAL PAYROLL REPORT DUE FEBRUARY 28
INCLUDE YOUR OHS UPDATE

Don't delay: your Annual Payroll Report (APR) must be complete by February 28, 2019 to avoid penalty. You must submit an APR even if you are reporting zero (0) payroll. The penalty for late submission is 15% of your previous year's employer payroll assessment.

Remember, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) section introduced last year is a requirement for completing your submission. Below are some tips to help you with the process.

Research your OHS answers before you begin: WSCC Connect users should consult with the person who manages OHS in their company (or the company they are filing for) to provide Yes/No answers to the OHS questions.

Use our step-by-step guide: the complete set of questions with explanations of what to look for is in Section 4 of the
Guide to Completing Annual Payroll Reporting .

Let us help: our OHS team can guide you through the questions if you are still unsure. Call us at 1-800-661-0792 and ask to speak with our OHS team in Prevention Services.

If you need technical support with  WSCC Connect , see the  WSCC Connect Help  page or contact the  Help Desk toll-free at 1-844-238-5008.

Slips, Trips, and Falls
BY THE NUMBERS

We know, we know - we sound like a broken record. At the risk of repeating ourselves too much, we'll let the numbers do the talking. Here, statistically speaking, is why you should watch out for slips, trips, and falls this season:

In 2017, 22.9% of WSCC claims were due to a slip, trip, or fall.
That's 1 in 5.

That means we received an average of 1.79 slip, trip, and fall claims
per day.

Over the last 5 years, the average slip, trip, and fall claim cost $7,699.

In 2017, we paid approximately $4,100,000 to 717 slip, trip, and fall injuries. (!!!)

So, what to do?

Wear proper footwear! Consider it your PPE - personal protective equipment.

Remember the Internal Responsibility System (IRS): if you see a potential hazard, correct it or report it.

Remember, slip, trip, and fall incidents don't always happen outside. Make sure to keep your work area clear! Good housekeeping can save you from injury. And time lost from work. And time lost submitting your claim to the WSCC.
