Revisit the Top Five Westchase District Stories of 2018
We're confident that you eagerly devour every issue of The Wire the minute it hits your inbox. (WHAT?!? You're not subscribed? Well, let's take care of that right now!) but in case you missed these stories the first time, here are the top five news highlights from 2018.
1. The Westchase District's Board of Directors voted unanimously to extend the District's service plan through 2045, ensuring
continuation of its core services of public safety, mobility and beautification into the middle of the 21st century. (December)
2. Westchase District completed a $1.8 million project on Wilcrest Drive, north of Westheimer, adding left-turn lanes, realigning six median openings, and updating landscaping on 16 medians between Westheimer and Lakeside place. (October)
3. The District unveiled a 20 x 100-foot mural commemorating the first responders and civilian rescurers who reacted bravely in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The mural was the largest of six installations of public art funded by the District in 2018. (August)
4. Emerson doubled its presence in Westchase District with the purchase of a 158,000 square-foot building at 6005 Rogerdale Road, creating a campus of more than 300,000 square feet of office space and offering them room for growth. (October)
5. After being closed since September 2016, the Robinson Westchase Neighborhood Library reopened after undergoing a complete remodeling and upgrading. (April)

New Interactive Art Coming Soon To Trailside Park

Who remembers playing hopscotch? This is a rendering of the interactive hopscotch art that will be painted on the walking path at Trailside Park.
|
More improvements will soon be coming to Westchase District's Trailside Park, thanks to a $1,500 grant from America Walks.
The "Community Change Micro Grant" awarded to the Westchase District Community Fund was one of only 20 grants extended to local organizations for 2019 and the only grant awarded in Texas. The grant program supports local efforts to create safe, accessible and enjoyable places to walk and be physically active.

BuffBurger Westchase Now Open at 10550 Westheimer
BuffBurger, one the city's hippest and family-owned fast-casual dining brands, has opened its third Houston location in Westchase District in the CityWest Retail Center at 10550 Westheimer.
Featuring all-natural ingredients sourced from local suppliers, everything at BuffBurger -from the bacon and buns to the mayo and meat - is prepared in-house, from scratch.(Pictured above left: the Avocado Burger with avocado, oven-roasted tomatoes, fire-roasted poblanos, Tillamook pepperjack cheese and Fresno chili mayo with a side of hand-cut fries topped with Parmesan cheese, truffle salt, truffle oil and truffle aioli sauce)
Owner Sara Burden (pictured above, lower right) said the restaurant is in its soft-opening phase, so for now its hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. However, breakfast will be offered soon starting at 7 a.m.
Burden said customers who say the secret word "WEBSITE10" can order a BuffBurger, fries and a fountain drink for $10. During happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m., beer and wine is half-price and cocktails are $5. Kids eat free on Mondays and Tuesdays with the purchase of an adult meal (dine-in only). West Houston Economic Development Summit Jan. 18

Rotary Club's 7th Annual Soup'er Bowl February 1
Q: What's the worst part about eating platypus soup?
A: When you get the bill.
You can vie for top billing when you bring your best cooking team, your favorite soup and a spirit of friendly competition as the Houston Westchase Rotary Club hosts its seventh annual Soup'er Bowl from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, February 1 at Quillian Center, 3663 Westcenter Drive.
There is no admission charge, but a recommended donation of $5 for the fundraising effort would be appreciated.
Bring your family, co-workers, neighbors and friends. All proceeds from the cook-off benefit Houston Westchase Rotary Club scholarships for area high school students. There's still time to become a sponsor for the event, as well as to register your soup'er cook-off team now. Or, simply come out to enjoy some delicious soups and support a worthy cause.
