Happy New Year FAWL Members!
It is with great joy that we anticipate all we will accomplish in our professional and personal lives in 2019. Today as I watched Inauguration events for our newly elected officials, I could not help but look forward to meeting with many new faces in Tallahassee in March. I am sure you join me in congratulating the women leading our state, such as Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez, Attorney General Ashley Moody, Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, and First Lady Casey DeSantis. We hope to see them all at our Legislative Reception on
March 11
in the Capitol where we will join forces to advocate for issues impacting women in the legal profession and child welfare.
FAWL looks forward to working with Governor DeSantis’ General Counsel on judicial appointments. We have enjoyed a direct line of communication with former General Counsel Daniel Nordby regarding judicial appointments and appreciated his commitment to engagement with the legal community, including presentations for many FAWL chapters. He has been quick to give well-deserved credit to former Deputy General Counsel, Meredith Sasso, who has recently been appointed to the Fifth District Court of Appeal, and has assisted in the appointment of a record number of women to the bench in Florida. We have not agreed on every decision made, but have always been able to have candid conversation and listen to each other, which I value so highly.
Please do not forget to submit your applications for Florida Bar Committees and JNCs in the next week. Also, FAWL Awards nominations are due on
February 1
. Please let your chapter leadership know if you are aware of deserving nominees. FAWL is ready to recognize these leaders at Annual Convention in Boca Raton and in all of our print and social media.
Sincerely,
Jenny
