The survey will be open through  February 22, 2019 . Your response to the survey is very important.   Please take ten to fifteen minutes and share your ideas, experiences and feedback!

Instrument Recruitment
The 3rd grade instrument recruitment process has started in each of the elementary schools! It is an exciting time for our 3rd graders to pick their instrument. Our elementary instrument teachers have been very busy getting started with the 3rd Grade Recruitment!

The Cortland Instrumental Process
First, music teachers have a recruitment assembly at each of the elementary schools. The teachers demonstrate each instrument the students can choose from and let the students ask questions about the instruments and the process. Next, students bring home the instrumental sign up sheet. Then as the teachers are able to schedule our new recruits, they travel to each school for a series of hands on days. The hands on day is when the students get to try out and get to play each instrument of their choice. Read more...
Report Cards
It is time for your child’s 20-week report card . This signals the halfway point in the school year. Is your child doing as well as you had hoped?

Please take time to review the report card with your child. Talk about areas of strength and areas in need of improvement. Let your child know that you support his/her efforts. Set goals with your child for the next 10 weeks. What does he/she hope to accomplish? What is the specific plan to get there and how will you track progress?

If you have questions or concerns, or just would like some more ideas about how to help your child, please contact us. We want to work with you to help your child succeed.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Doors open at 8:00 am. Students should not arrive prior to that time, as supervision is not available. Students arriving after 8:30 am are tardy. Please send in a note or come to the office with your child.

Walkers are dismissed at 3:10 pm. All walkers should go directly home.
School Notes...
Winter is here…

Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Unless it is extremely cold, we go outside daily for recess.  On warmer days, boots are still a good idea as the playground tends to get muddy.

E-mailing Your Child’s Teacher...

Parents, please keep in mind that our teachers are very busy during the day with your children. They may not have a chance to check their email until the end of the day.

If you have a message that they will need prior to the end of the day, please call our main office.
Fourth Graders Perform With Ithacapella

On January 16th, fourth graders from across the district united for an exciting musical experience! The fourth graders came together to present a combined concert with the college a cappella group Ithacappella, for community members, staff and parents. This concert, was a collaborative effort of the music teachers in all five elementary schools.

Music teacher, Jonathan Keefner said, “When our team of music teachers met during collaboration time, we saw an opportunity to create community through music during a transition period where community will be more important than ever." Read more...
