PEDS is a member-based organization - and we're eager to learn:

Atlanta City Council passed rules banning scooters from riding on sidewalks

PEDS provided considerable input at committee meetings and work sessions, as well as written comments.

We're pleased to see that the final ordinance incorporates many of our suggestions.

Prohibited behaviors include:
  • Riding scooters on sidewalks
  • Using cell phones while riding
  • Riding with additional passengers
  • Blocking sidewalks and curb ramps
To our dismay, the ordinance doesn't set fines for riders who ignore the rules. We'll begin monitoring rider behavior soon and report our findings to planners and elected officials.

The ordinance also requires scooter companies to obtain permits, pay annual fees, and prevent devices from being scattered on city sidewalks. Scooter companies can be fined up to $1,000 per day for violations. Stay tuned for a parking violation crowdsourcing project.

The rules will go into effect once Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms signs the ordinance.

Ask Atlanta to fund and implement Complete Street projects!
Atlanta residents long for transportation safety improvements and infrastructure repairs.
And by passing the Renew Atlanta and TSPLOST  referendums in 2015 and 2016, they proved Renew Atlanta - TSPLOST logo their willingness to pay for them.

In November Atlanta officials reported that  large funding shortfalls prevent the city from implementing many projects it had promised  voters.

City leaders are re-prioritizing projects and have scheduled a series of meetings in January and February where you can provide input.  The meetings will be held in each of the city's four quadrants.

The meetings provide a great opportunity for you to urge Atlanta to place Complete Street projects at the top of the list.
