On Monday, September 10, Town Council endorsed the Downtown Construction Mitigation Strategy, which aims to soften the impact of the Lakeshore Road reconstruction on the business district in the downtown.
Council directed staff to implement the mitigation initiatives, subject to budget approval. Council also recommended free parking be offered on Saturdays, running from April 2019 to November 2020, subject to budget approval.
Presented by Economic Development, the report is based on findings and interviews with other municipalities that recently underwent similar construction projects as well as interviews with our own residents, Downtown Oakville BIA, businesses and other municipal stakeholders.
Oakville's newest facility - Trafalgar Park Community Centre - opens Saturday, September 22 with a full day of free activities for the entire family. The grand opening celebration, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will feature drop-in activities, food trucks, family skates and an opportunity to skate with the Oakville Blades. There will also be plenty of time to explore the community centre and the new Fire Station #3 next door.
Dropping off and picking up students in school areas can cause extra traffic congestion and create a safety risk. Illegally stopping or parking in a school zone makes it hard for other drivers to see pedestrians, particularly children, crossing the street. Please remember to respect the No Parking and No Stopping areas, obey the
pedestrian crossover rules and do not obstruct sidewalks, crosswalks, driveways or fire routes.
