Healthcare Partners of Michigan in Crain's Business
The Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) and MedNetOne Health Solutions were featured in Crain's Detroit Business in an article on the new physician organization, Healthcare Partners of Michigan. The article includes comments from MedNetOne CEO, Ewa Matuszewski and MOA CEO, Kris Nicholoff.
"This is an exciting initiative that will deliver support and information to health care providers at a time when there is a huge need. We have already seen interest - not just from our members - but also from providers outside of our membership who are looking for a resource to help them navigate the complexities of health care yet also want to have their voice heard as part of a dedicated physician organization," said Nicholoff.

MOA Website and Event registration upgrade
|
The Michigan Osteopathic Association will be upgrading the domoa.org website and the membership database over the next two weeks. Membership login will be suspended during this time in order to complete the upgrade. The new system promises to provide a more intuitive environment making it easier to access profile information, pay membership dues and register for events.

Dr. Bell Represents MOA at Sen. Dale Zorn event
Stephen Bell, DO, recently attended a fundraiser held for Senator Dale Zorn at the Monroe Golf and Country Club representing the Michigan Osteopathic Political Action Committee.
Sen. Zorn introduced Governor Rick Snyder who addressed the group on the growing list of accomplishments in Michigan during his terms. Some of the highlights were:
- Michigan's business climate has improved dramatically, going from 40th to a top-10 state for business.
- Our Infrastructure Commission is working diligently to provide a long-term infrastructure strategy that addresses Michigan's needs for the next 30-50 years in the areas of transportation, water, sewer, storm water, wastewater treatment and drainage, energy, and communications.
- Among the Great Lakes states, Michigan has gone from last to leading the way in attracting people with at least a bachelor's degree.
Dr. Bell, was joined by his wife, Michelle and his office staff. Ms. Cynthia Earles attended to represent Michigan Osteopathic Association. The event attracted judges, other legislators and the general public.

McLaren to become one of biggest health systems in Michigan
Crain's Detroit Business featured an article on how a year-end expansion may position McLaren Health Care Corp. as one of the biggest integrated health system in Michigan. The article highlights the recent growth and how health systems get measured.
CEO Phil Incarnati said whether McLaren is the largest in the state depends on how one measures size. Once McLaren is done integrating the two new hospitals and health plan, the system will grow into a company with $5.6 billion in annual revenue with 14 hospitals and two health plans.

Now Accepting Resolutions for House of Delegates
The 2018 Michigan Osteopathic Association House of Delegates will meet on Thursday, May 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Westin Southfield Detroit. If you have resolutions you wish to submit to the 2018 House of Delegates, you can now do so via the MOA website.

(Note: You must be logged in to access the House of Delegates web page).
Any MOA member in good standing may author a resolution; however, introduction of resolutions to the House of Delegates is limited to delegates, alternate-seated delegates, component associations, MOA Departments, Councils, or Board of Trustees. Non-delegate status members in good standing should contact their component association for assistance in identifying an appropriate channel for resolution introduction.

Work with your component society if you are interested in submitting a resolution or serving as a delegate. The deadline for submitting resolutions, and delegate names, is March 18, 2018.

Improving CME Sessions: Audience Participation Tool Survey
The MOA is working to implement an audience participation tool for the Spring and Autumn Conventions. The tool would allow the audience to respond to questions, ask questions and participate in surveys and polls.
If you have attended an event and used an audience participation tool you found easy-to-use we are hoping to get your insight.

The MHA Keystone Center Speak-up Award
Launched in March 2016, the MHA Keystone Center Speak-up! Award is designed to acknowledge the efforts of individuals or teams within MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization hospitals who speak-up to prevent potential harm to patients or other staff members. The award not only represents a volitional voicing of concerns by one or more people, but is a tool through which one may eliminate preventable harm caused by miscommunication and non-communication.

University of Michigan surgeons use a simple approach in combatting opioid addition: Surgeons should give patients fewer pills after surgery - the time when many people are first introduced to what can be highly addictive painkillers. They should also talk to patients about the proper use of opioids and the associated risks.
PBS documentary about women in osteopathic medicine wins regional Emmy
"The Feminine Touch: The Struggle for Equality in Medicine," a historical documentary film on women in osteopathic medicine, has won the Suncoast Regional Emmy® Award.
