College-age alumnae return to share their experiences
College alums enjoyed a brunch and visited with seniors to share some of their college knowledge on Jan. 11. Panelists told students about the transition to college, lessons they learned, and things they would do differently as a senior. Alums also joined smaller groups after the panel to answer questions on a more personal level.

One student said, " I liked learning about everyone's college experiences and listening to the different perspectives of each person. I also enjoyed their honesty. "

Surprise visitor meets dance students
St. Catharine Academy Intro to dance students received a special surprise in class while performing a modern dance for a performance project. Freshmen and Sophomore students were on stage demonstrating their Graham and Horton technique when artist, Iniko, walked in to catch them dancing to her new song "Kingdom."

Students reacted with shocked faces when the lights were turned on to reveal that dance teacher, Ms. Hawthorne, had organized the meet and greet after noticing how much her students had not only worked hard to learn their choreography, but grown to love the song. When asked how they felt post performance, Freshman, Erleen Sosa-Badia stated, "I felt free; I used my body to tell your story."

Iniko spoke with the class and posed for photos, leaving them with these words: "Your performance was... my lyrics, in dance form." Needless to say, she and Ms. Hawthorne think this class earned an "A". View more photos of this day in dance.

SCA at the ballet
Just before the holidays, 28 dance students attended a performance of The Nutcracker  at Lincoln Center.  The trip is funded by the Ballet Fund which was originally established by Ann McMorrow Cronin '55 and friends of the arts.

Goals of the exhibition are to give high school students an opportunity to showcase their work in a professional gallery and to build their credentials and portfolios for college. Students from St. Catharine Academy who participated are seniors Shania Burrus, Kamilah Guerrero, and Leeana Mullamphy.

The Fund for Catharinites creates leadership experiences through clubs, athletics, and service opportunities. It augments our Trustee (merit) Scholars Program and tuition assistance grants. You can make a gift towards Area of Greatest Need, Merit Scholarships, Tuition Assistance, Fine Arts, Technology & Innovation, or Athletics. You may direct your gift any way you like.
