After-school tutoring begins for grades 6-12
Academic assistance available on Wednesday afternoons
After-school tutoring begins Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the High School and both middle schools. Tutoring is one way the District provides our students with intervention and support to reduce achievement gaps, as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
The tutoring is available on Wednesdays from 3 to 4:15 p.m. at the high school and 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the middle schools. Bus transportation is available for students who participate.
High School
After-School Panther Tutoring is available for students who are assigned classroom academic tutoring by their classroom teachers and for students on an optional basis, by request. Tutoring is available in math, science, and English language arts. The school plans to offer a testing room for freshmen and sophomores to make up missed assessments.
Students needing bus transportation must request that their name be added to the transportation list by the Monday that precedes Wednesday tutoring. S
tudents should visit with their core subject teacher to have their name added to the transportation list. In addition, the student must stay in tutoring until 4:15 p.m. to receive a bus pass from one of the tutoring staff.
Middle School
At the middle school level, the program is called PAWS Tutoring, which stands for Practicing Academics With Support. Usually, teachers will initiate the PAWS support for students. The program offers students support while working on academics. Bus transportation is available, or car riders should be picked up by 4:40 p.m.

Board reviews Strategic Plan and board vacancy
Process outlined for filling vacant seat on School Board
During a work session on Sept. 13, Board members heard an update on the Strategic Plan. Approved just nine months ago, the five-year plan has three focus areas:
- Success Ready Students
- High Quality Staff
- Financial Responsibility
District administrators informed the Board about priority strategies and action steps for the first year of the plan.
The Board also discussed how
to fill a vacancy on the Board following the recent resignation of Kim Bailey.
Bailey resigned, effective Aug. 29, so that she might accept an appointment to the State Board of Education. Bailey had been serving as Board President.
Vice President Paul Coffman is now serving as interim Board President.
Following District Policy, the Board will invite members of the community to express interest in serving on the board. After a review process, the Board will vote to select a replacement to serve until the April 2019 election. Watch for more information about this process to be announced next week.

Raymore-Peculiar High School Homecoming activities include recognition of Distinguished Alumni, football game, and a dance.
Alumni and staff are invited to a tailgate party, sponsored by the Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Panther Stadium parking lot.
Admission is $5 for adults, and $3 for students. Residents ages 55 and older may show identification for free admission.
Please remember that students in grades K-8 must be accompanied by an adult while attending District evening activities. Middle school students will have a designated section at the south end of the bleachers.
The Homecoming dance is scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the high school. Tickets are $10. Homecoming King and male attendants will be announced at the dance.

Raymore Festival in the Park is Sept. 20-22
Event includes carnival, games, food, and entertainment
Raymore Festival in the Park is Thursday, Sept. 20, through Saturday, Sept. 22, at
 Raymore Memorial Park. The annual event includes a baby contest, vendor booths, concessions, a carnival, entertainment, a BBQ contest, horseshoe pitching contest, baking contest, car show, dog show, and parade.
The parade begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Recreation Park, and ends at Raymore Elementary School. Carnival armbands can be purchased in advance for $15 ($20 at carnival) at Community Bank of Raymore or the Raymore Chamber of Commerce. Armbands can be used from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday or Friday only.
