Passion for Purple

Join Compass Center in honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month with our fundraiser, Passion for Purple!

Presented by Ellis Family Law, Passion for Purple is a cocktail benefit that will take place October 18th from 6:00-8:00 PM at the NC Botanical Gardens.

Each ticket is tax-deductible and includes one drink and heavy appetizers.

Ellis Family Law, PLLC.

Having worked directly with a number of domestic violence victims, Ellis Family Law was inspired to support a nonprofit that helps survivors of abuse find safety and rebuild their lives. Ellis Family Law, with five domestic attorneys, three family law specialists, and over 40 years combined experience in family law, has grown to become one of the largest boutique law firms in the Triangle. In their 10th year of business they have made a bigger commitment to give back to the community, especially in areas that directly impact some of their clients.

As part of their community outreach effort Ellis Family Law has generously offered to serve as the Presenting Sponsor for our first ever Passion for Purple Cocktail Benefit on October 18. The event takes place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and is an opportunity to raise funds for Compass Center, Orange County's designated domestic violence agency.

"Through our work, we know that domestic violence is all too common in our society. Everyone knows someone who has been impacted by it." says Gray Ellis, managing partner of the firm. "We believe in the work that Compass Center does to support survivors and we hope that this event will further raise much-needed funds for domestic violence services in our community."

Why I Give

We are so fortunate to receive donations in a myriad of ways. From toiletry drives to percentage of proceeds events at local businesses, people find so many ways to give to Compass Center.

One of the most creative and successful fundraisers for Compass Center in the last year was generated by Chapel Hill Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Last Spring, they brought jiu-jitsu friends from across the Eastern NC together to raise $4,000 for Compass Center in a "Roll-A-Thon" or "sparring"event.

"I can't tell you how many people came up to me and were so glad I suggested this event because they know someone who has been in a bad situation," said Lourdes, one of the key organizers of the event. "Everyone had a story. My primary focus for the donation was to create awareness. I wanted people to know that if they needed help, there was somebody out there.

I'm really excited that we raised a lot of money, but even if we reached just one person that found Compass Center and found their voice to get out of their situation, that is the win."
