Living in the Son: Galatians 2:20
September 14, 2018

"But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
James 1:22

Dear Parents,
In November, 2005, Sandy and I had the humbling experience of leading a group of volunteers to New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina clean-up. Sponsored by Concordia Theological Seminary, our two dozen volunteers ranged from old geezers like me to middle agers,  Seminary students, high school students and even an eighth grader.  All of us wer e just average working people or students moved by the Spirit to step outside our comfort zone. And we were not alone. Hundreds of groups like ours made the trip south in the months and years after Katrina.
Now it's Hurricane Florence. Our school theme is LIVING IN THE SON - easy to say, but just how  do you do that? One excellent way is to put our faith into God- directed action. In the weeks ahead, you'll hear of dozens of opportunities to help the Florence victims. It's easy to drop a check in the mail and say we helped. But how about challenging your family to find creative ways to help others? Let the Spirit move you, maybe even outside your comfort zone. Who knows? You might find yourself doing clean-up work down south! Coming up with your own creative family plan can have a triple blessing - it can help others in need, it can teach your children the joy of giving their time and talents, and it can bring your family closer. So, when our faith challenges us to get involved, we are

Important Information
Playtime!
Good news! Last Tuesday several volunteers and a tractor unloaded a semi trailer of playground equipment. We're in the process of developing a plan to get all this stuff installed. We'll be scheduling several work days to remove some of the old equipment and install the new. No particular skills are needed, just a willingness to follow directions and help. Watch for more updates in the near future!
Family Faith Building
We are so blessed to have the opportunity to send  our children to St. Peter's for a Christian education. However, this doesn't absolve us from our responsibilities as parents. Over and over the Bible tells parents that they are to train our children in the faith, to teach them the Scriptures, and to nurture their faith. Studies agree that parents are still the greatest influence on the faith life of a child, even more than teachers, pastors, Bible study leaders, youth leaders, friends, media, etc. As your church, St. Peter's is here to help you in this journey and with this great responsibility. This school year, each month we will feature a different devotional activity you can complete at home. These are simple activities that require common things you likely already have at home and will likely take 15-20 minutes to complete. We would encourage you to try them out this month, and be sure to let us know how it went.
