Chapel Notes
Volume XLII Issue 2 | Februrary Edition

Words are powerful forces in our lives. When someone says, "I love you" to us for the first time, it changes our relationship. When we utter the same words to someone else for the first time, we feel vulnerable, anxiously awaiting a response. Words can change our lives, and the way we use words can change the lives of others.

Words can also confuse and create discord in our lives. Sometimes we use words only to discover that someone else uses the same word to mean something different. We say I love my family, my dog, my car, chocolate chip cookies, college basketball. However, we are not describing the same type of relationship or feeling with each of these "loves."

In I Corinthians 13, Paul describes the love that binds the church together as active, a verb. He depicts what love does in our interactions and relationships. This February, I hope we will focus on an active love that binds us together.

Many of you know that February 24-26 is the meeting of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. This Conference is our official policy-making body for the denomination. You can learn more about this General Conference by going to the following website: ngumc.org/GC2019 .

As one way to show our love for the future of the church, please pray for the delegates from North Georgia who will attend this conference. Their names and contact information are available at the website listed above. You could pray for them all each day or pray for one delegate each day between now and General Conference, but I hope you will take time to show love by praying for them this month.

Peace,
Max

Modern Worship at The Table

Imagine: Encountering God, Seeing Differently
In this season of Epiphany, we look for the light that God is shining into the world. But what happens when that light looks a little different - maybe even a lot different - than how we thought it would? How do we react when God's presence challenges us to see things in a new and creative way? This season at The Table, we are exploring how using our God-given imaginations can help us to know God and ourselves more fully. Together, we will discover how the good news of God's love for all creation calls us to be bold, to be creative, to imagine new ways of being in relationship.
