The U.S. House of Representatives voted 283-132 this week to repeal the 2.3% tax levied upon medical devices as part of the Affordable Care Act.

The tax has directly impacted several local medical device manufacturers in the region including AngioDynamics, BD (formerly CR Bard), and others. Rep. Elise Stefanik was a co-signer on the House repeal bill. The bill now heads to the US Senate where New York Senator Chuck Schumer was instrumental two years ago in having the tax suspended.

Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) has awarded $1.4 million in project funding to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as part of its first round of funding to strengthen U.S. manufacturing.
