Words Matter!

May the WORDS that come out of my mouth and the musings of my heart meet with Your gracious approval... ~From Psalm 19 (the voice)

A Note From Pastor Linda

Greetings Friends!

Happy NEW YEAR 2019!! WORDS matter... WORDS have the power to create or tear down. WORDS have the potential to produce positive or negative consequences. WORDS have the possibility to give life through encouragement and honesty or to crush and kill through lies and gossip.

The childhood chant, "Sticks and stones many break my bones- but words will never hurt me."- is a lie. WORDS hurt and can cause pain that cannot easily be easily healed with a Band-Aid and a parent's kiss.

Proverbs 21 says: The tongue has the power of life and death.

Nelson Mandela, who opposed the South African apartheid regime and was imprisoned for almost 3 decades, knew the power of WORDS. A decade after his release he said:
"It is never my custom to use words lightly. If 27 years in prison have done anything to us, it was to use the silence of solitude to make us understand how precious words are, and how real speech is in its impact on the way people live and die."

WORDS- on Sunday we will listen to the WORDS said to Jesus at his baptism. These words shaped the rest of his life.

See you in Church... until then: BE the CHURCH!!

 ~Pastor Linda

LECTIO DIVINA- Dwelling in the WORD:  ADULT EDUCATION on Wednesdays
Latin for "sacred reading," "divine reading," or "holy reading," is a spiritual practice that has been in use for over a thousand years. It was originally practiced by monks who spent a large portion of their days praying and reading Scripture. While reading they noticed that at times individual words, phrases, or verses seemed to leap off of the page with a special personal importance.

It is an intentional practice that involves refection, deep listening to Scripture and to each other, patience and faith that God will reveal something new to us.
