A Presidential visit is likely to the winter White House at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, February 1, through Sunday, February 3, according to an advisory issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. The "VIP Movement Notification" was issued Monday.

Consultant Dives Deep into Flood Risks for Palm Beach
A consultant used computer modeling to simulate hundreds of tropical storms or hurricanes and the flooding they would unleash upon Palm Beach. Woods Hole Group, an international environmental services firm based in Massachusetts, has spent two years assessing the town's coastal vulnerability.

Palm Beach Leaders Envision More Vibrant Business Climate in Town

Harvey L. Poppel, a Civic Association Director and Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee, presented an interim report on the business community to the Town of Palm Beach Business Workshop.  Mr. Poppel explained the results of a Civic Association Residential Survey about the business community in town. The purpose of the survey was to find out if the town's business community suitably contributes to its residents' future quality of life.

Palm Beach Nearing Decision on New Recreation Director
The search for a new recreation director for the town is almost complete, according to Deputy Town Manager Jay Boodheshwar. Town staff is going through the first phase of review for applicants and aims for an early to mid-March announcement of a replacement for Beth Zickar, who left her position on Oct. 31 after three years.

As of Friday, Feb. 1 the abandoned vessel is still on the beach near Mar-a-Lago according to Palm Beach Police. 
ORIGINAL STORY:
The abandoned vessel that has sat about two houses north of the Beach Club at Mar-a-Lago since Wednesday turned out to be far from empty before it arrived on land. A U.S. Coast Guard news release shows that on Jan. 20, a Coast Guard Cutter Bernard C. Webber crew rescued 31 Haitians from the boat, Summer Smart, which was drifting about 9 miles north of Bimini, Bahamas.

Lilly Leas Ferreira remembers coming to The Royal Poinciana Plaza and playhouse with her mother when she was a girl growing up on the island's north side. She returned on Monday in a new role - as the plaza's general manager. "It had this legacy to it," said Ferreira, whose mother is Minnie Pulitzer McCluskey and grandmother was designer and Palm Beach icon Lilly Pulitzer.

Proposal for Solution to Beach Erosion in Palm Beach Delayed

The Shore Protection Board was expected to hear a proposed solution on Thursday for the beach erosion stretching from The Breakers to Midtown Beach. But the presentation was not ready. Michael Jenkins, speaking on behalf of the town's engineering consultant, Applied Technology & Management, told the board that finding a solution was taking longer than expected.

Tellus, a Florida Crystals and Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative venture, is an annually renewable packaging company based in Belle Glade that converts sugarcane fiber into packaging and food service products.

Tellus products will decompose in weeks, not centuries like single-use styrofoam and plastic, and substitute for some of that plastic.

A working farm will also be on the tour!

Looks like it's safe to get back in the water. Shark attacks, still rare despite movie plot lines and one fatal attack this year off Cape Cod, declined dramatically worldwide in 2018 and plummeted by nearly half in Florida waters, according to the Florida Museum of Natural History's International Shark Attack File.

Is it time to revise Florida's motor vehicle laws to prepare for a future dominated by driverless vehicles? At least two lawmakers think so. A new legislative bill aimed at preserving Florida's status as a pioneering state for autonomous vehicle development would eliminate requirements that human operators always be on hand to take control of fully autonomous cars while in turn legalizing driverless vehicles fully run by software systems.
