Quote of the Week

"The results in these runoffs and in the March primaries clearly demonstrate that Republican voters want constructive and pragmatic leadership for our fast-growing state."

Retiring House Speaker Joe Straus made the comment following results from the May 22 runoff elections for the Texas Legislature.  Straus supported business moderate conservatives in the runoffs, including Steve Allison, who won the Republican runoff in the district Straus is leaving.
Texas Building Branch PAC goes four out of five in runoff elections

Four of the five candidates that Texas Building Branch PAC supported in the May 22 runoff elections won their respective Texas House races.

The four runoff winners backed by TBB PAC now head into general elections in November.  They include three Republicans and one Democrat:

Steve Allison (R-San Antonio) - House District 121
Sheryl Cole (D-Austin) - House District 46
Ben Leman (R-Brenham) - House District 13
Reggie Smith (R-Sherman) - House District 62

Across the state, more than 30 races went to runoff elections, including a Democratic runoff for governor, which resulted in Lupe Valdez (53.3%) defeating Andrew White (46.7%).   The list below includes results from all 15 runoff elections for positions in the Texas Legislature.  The winners will head to the Nov. 6 general elections, where some will run unopposed.
