January Students of the Month
Kaylyn Feeley
Class of 2019

Senior Kaylyn Feeley has had four impressive years at North Hunterdon. Kaylyn is a member of National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. In Spanish Honor Society, she is the committee leader for the Spanish Immersion Summer Camp where she helps to plan and organize the summer camp. Kaylyn is involved in the after-school audition choirs through the North Hunterdon Music Department. She has been a member of Madrigals Singers (10th grade) and is currently a member of Chamber Choir (11th, 12th grades) and Show Choir (12th grade). In Chamber Choir, she was elected Vice President and was designated Soprano Section Leader. Kaylyn’s favorite class at North is AP Spanish with Senor Zamora. The class challenged her to become a better Spanish speaker and a better critical thinker. Her world view has expanded and she has learned much about other cultures, in turn making her realize how her own culture has influenced her. Since taking AP Spanish, Kaylyn is now confident speaking Spanish and has learned to push aside the fear of failure in order to improve her speaking abilities. Outside of school, Kaylyn is a member of Showkids Invitational Theatre (SKIT). She has been a member since 5th grade and has performed in 12 SKIT musicals. This year, Kaylyn is performing in Newsies and Little Shop of Horrors as Audrey, the female lead. Kaylyn is a counselor at Camp Carr, a camp she attended since age five. Next year, Kaylyn will be majoring in Neuroscience, a field she became interested in because of suffering from Post Concussion Syndrome and because of losing her grandma to Alzheimer’s Disease. Her favorite memories from North were performing in the choirs. It is extremely rewarding to perform what you have worked so hard on with the people you have bonded with, no matter how the performance goes.
Andrew Tota
Class of 2019

Andrew Tota’s favorite classes at North Hunterdon are Latin and Biology. These are his favorite classes because they offer a good challenge and a reward. The cumulative nature of the material meant a good foundation in each topic was essential. For Latin, the ability to recall a learned material from the previous years at a moments’ notice became apparent when the class started authentic prose and poetry. This was especially rewarding when Andrew was able to make sense of the only first-hand account of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. AP Biology gave similar rewards by allowing him to apply his interests in the sciences towards the course work. The rigorous workload kept Andrew busy yet engaged in the workings of complex biological systems. The work ethic that he developed in these two courses has become a valuable tool that he employed in his other academic endeavors. Mrs. Mullay and Mrs. Gallo created a learning environment that was both encouraging and conducive to his success academically and socially. Andrew is a member of National Honor Society and Latin National Honor Society, where he earned an Exceptional Effort in Language Study Award last May. Andrew was a member of Cross Country his first three years at North. He is currently in Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and Show Choir. He earned the Good Citizen Award in December 2018 and participates in various volunteering and community service at The Hunterdon County Library and United Way. Recently, Andrew joined the NHTO and was cast in the spring cabaret, fall play, and winter musical. One of his favorite memories from North was joining the theatre department. Andrew will never forget the warm feeling of being accepted into the community, which allowed him to explore a different facet of himself. Next year, Andrew plans to study Civil/Environmental Engineering.
January Athletes of the Month
Cassandra Adamcak
Class of 2019

Cassandra Adamcak is team captain of the Girls Fencing Team. She is a leader the girls can look up to and go to for support and guidance. Cassandra remains cool and calm on the strip while fencing and handles pressure during intense situations well. She keeps the team cheerful and energetic with her positive and outgoing personality. Cassandra does her best keeping everyone focused at practice. She helps everyone improve with technique and endurance while also finding ways to make it fun, like exercising through Just Dance. Cassandra has been a member of the fencing team since freshman year. She began fencing competitively outside of high school her sophomore year. She does not fence for any clubs, but competes in tournaments on her own time. Cassandra plans to continue fencing throughout college at a club level. She is undecided where she will be going but knows she will major in Biology. Cassandra has Type 1 Diabetes and would like to become a Pediatric Endocrinologist with a focus on Type 1 so she can help other kids learn to live with the disease. An interesting fact about Cassandra is she is Slovakian and can speak the language fluently. She loves to travel, specifically to the Caribbean because she loves snorkeling and diving. Her favorite trip so far was to Curacao where she was able to snorkel in the open ocean with green sea turtles.
Nicholas Guasta
Class of 2019

Three year varsity starter on the basketball team, Nicholas Guasta, is currently having his best year. At the end of January, Nick was averaging 10.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. He plays small forward and power forward for the Lions. Nick has always been a slasher. He gets to the rim and is able to finish in many different ways. Nick takes pride in his defense and likes to challenge himself by covering the best player on the other team. Over winter break, the team won the Whitehall Tournament. This is a tournament they have been in the finals all three of his years on varsity, but this is the first time they have won while he has been on the team. Nick has been playing competitive AAU (Travel Basketball) since the 4 th grade. He has been able to play with many good players and make friends from all over the state. At North, Nick is a member of Interact and has especially enjoyed being captain for Friendship Day and a coach for Special Olympics. Next year, Nick is not sure what school he will be attending, but his top two choices are University of Florida and Clemson. He has already been accepted to the University of Illinois and Penn State. Nick is not sure if he will be playing at the varsity level, but knows he will continue to play basketball at some level. Wherever he ends up next year, he will be entering the business school to pursue a degree in Informational Systems.

American Mathematics Competition - February 7, 2019

The American Mathematics Competition (AMC) is dedicated to the goal of strengthening the mathematical capabilities of our nation's youth. One way to meet this goal is to identify, recognize, and reward excellence in mathematics through a series of national contests.

Approximately 140 students at North Hunterdon will have the opportunity to participate in either the AMC 10 or AMC 12 on Thursday, February 7, 2019. Qualifying students will then have the opportunity to further their problem solving and enriching mathematics experiences even more by participating in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.
