Missions Collection
Our first Missions Collection for the 2018-2019 year will be Wednesday, September 19, to support the Pontifical Mission Aid Societies in the United States through the Diocese of Harrisburg.

It seems hard to believe that there are still billions of people who have not yet heard the "Good News" of Jesus. That is why the Pontifical Mission Aid Societies exist in the Church: namely, to promote mission awareness among the baptized and support for the spread of the Gospel. The Diocese of Harrisburg has been blessed with generous and faithful people who respond with sacrificial generosity to these mission aid societies. Since the Missions Office began in the diocese in 1924, countless missionaries have benefited from the prayers and support offered year after year. Thank you for answering the call to the "missionary spirit" through your support of this holy work of the Church.

New Missions Banners
Thank you to Miss Jeanette Craymer and her mother, Dr. Ruth Davis, who quilted new Mission Champs banners for each grade. The homeroom collecting the most money for the monthly mission collection gets to display the traveling banner. Each homeroom views the earning of a banner as a sense of pride while serving a worthwhile cause. Thank you Miss Craymer and Dr. Davis!

Drop/Add Period Ends for Classes
Any request for a course change must be accompanied by a written parental request, teacher approval (as originally needed), and a $25.00 Late Roster Change Fee no later than Friday, September 14.

Since the Master Roster is built according to the original registration of students, we cannot guarantee admission to particular replacement classes.  For incoming new students, if an error has been made in placement, teachers will initiate the needed change and no fee will be assessed.  No course changes will be made after Friday, September 14, however, track changes in courses will be considered into the first quarter at the discretion of the subject teacher for any student who has been inaccurately placed in a course.

Strengthen & Sustain Catholic Education Update
Members of the Strengthen and Sustain Catholic Education (SASCE) Committee for the York Deanery would like to share the following update:

BACKGROUND:
The SASCE committee was formed in 2016 by Bishop Gainer and the Diocese of Harrisburg Office of Education to perform a study and develop a strategic action plan that will strengthen and sustain Catholic education in the York Deanery. This is due to declining enrollments and increasing costs.

PROCESS:
SASCE committee members (pastors, principals, and select lay leader volunteers from every York Deanery parish) have worked hard to define and understand the challenges and opportunities. The committee conducted interviews with pastors and principals, collected financial and enrollment data, and surveyed parishioners and school families. After collecting this information, including over 400 survey results, the committee sought experts in finance and best practices in Catholic education to determine the best path forward. An independent consultant facilitated the process, while the pastors, principals, and lay leaders worked together to prepare recommendations for the Diocese of Harrisburg.

OUTCOME:
Research results from the study led the SASCE to form 11 sub-committees with pastors, principals, and select lay volunteers from every York Deanery parish to develop the strategic action plan. The 11 sub-committees are: Catholic Identity, Curriculum, Enrollment, Extra-Curricular, Facilities, Finance, Governance, Human Resources, PR/Marketing, Technology, and Transportation.

GOALS:
Every volunteer on every committee is dedicated to building a sustainable model for Catholic Education in the York Deanery. The model will successfully support every student on their Christ-centered journey.   The plan will:
  • Modernize the structure of the Catholic school system in the York Deanery
  • Improve academic achievement
  • Facilitate moral and spiritual development
  • Utilize collective resources and talents as efficiently as possible
  • Continue to support local parishes in the ministry of Catholic education
NEXT STEPS:
The SASCE committee, in conjunction with its 11 sub-committees, thanks you for your patience as we work through this comprehensive and thorough process. We request your prayers and support as the action plan is being finalized. When direction is given by Bishop Gainer and the Diocese of Harrisburg Office of Education, detailed communication will follow.

Questions can be directed to Father Jonathan Sawicki at [email protected].
