This Week in Westville is your go-to source for news, events, activities and goings-on in the Westville community. Like NPR and other user-supported media, much of our operations rely on the support of our "local listeners" - you, the reader. In order for the Westville Village Renaissance Alliance to continue providing this valuable community service, we ask you to donate or join WVRA as a Village Person today! Beyond the e-news, WVRA is working every day to make Westville a brighter, safer, more vibrant place to be. AN OP-ED REGARDING BAOLLOT QUESTION #2 RECOMMENDED BY OUR FRIENDS AT THE WEST ROCK RIDGE PARK ASSOCIATION
October 1, 2018,The Granby Drummer, by Eric Lukingbeal- "We need to amend the state constitution to protect public lands. We will get the chance to do that on Election Day, Nov. 6, as an amendment will be on our ballots. Why do we need to vote "Yes"?
Currently, the state legislature can sell, swap or give away state parks, forest and farmland without first holding a public hearing. Virtually none of the land owned by the state has any restrictions that would prevent this. It could happen at Enders or Peoples or any American Legion state forests. These public lands belong to all of us; we should have a say in how they are used.
The proposed amendment will give that voice. The amendment will appear as Question 2 on the ballot. It may be on the back side; ask an election official if you have trouble finding it. The wording of the question is legalistic and lengthy..." Click

EDITH BORAX-MORRISON AND HANK PAPER @KEHLER LIDDELL GALLERY
SURPRISE ENCOUNTERS, in America and Eastern Europe, by Hank Paper & CELLEBRATION, by Edith Borax-Morrison.
Artist Talk, 11/4 @ 2pm; followed by Opening Reception 3-6pm. RSVP
SURPRISE ENCOUNTERS, in America and Eastern Europe, by Hank Paper, presents a series of work that calls attention to the political echoes "across the pond." Of his work, Paper says: "Shooting around the world, I try to capture images that alter our awareness, puncture pretension and mine irony from surface appearances. In my vision, warmth and wit, and the wily truth, reside within revelatory geometries. My images lodge in the hidden, interstices of perception: what people look at, yet don't see, the strange and the beautiful, the real and the surreal, the quotidian and the quintessential. Often, we don't see what we should, but the camera does."
CELLEBRATION, by Edith Borax-Morrison, presents a series of small pen and ink drawings drawn over the last 12 months that were inspired by a grid of 30 rectangles holding her 30-day supply of medications. The drawings reflect the personal life change and reduced stress that occurred when she recently moved into an assisted living facility in Orange, CT. The intricate interwoven lines, circles and marks in her abstract drawings speak to the very nature of the artist: consistent, compulsive, with meticulous attention to detail.
