Spirit Day Schedule
Have your children show their support for healthy, drug free life by dressing up each day!

What Parents Can Do
For Red Ribbon Week!

Red Ribbon Week  is our nation's oldest and largest drug prevention program.

Here are some ways
Parents can help promote
this program at home:

Reinforce Healthy Life at Home.
Red Ribbon Week is also a good opportunity to reinforce the importance of making healthy choices in your life and the life of your children.  Discuss with your child why eating with proper  nutrition exercise , and adequate  sleep  are essential to making them more healthy.

Showing Importance of Free Time
With work for us, and school pressure for our kids, it is important to find and maintain a balance between work and free time for our children. There needs to be a balance between time spent on academics (and extracurricular activities) AND free, unstructured play and relaxation is important as well. As a community, let's help our children find a balanced life to stay healthy and keep stress away.  Maybe schedule "free time" each day of the week to just hang out together and let the Child chose what they would like to do.   Or go on a walk with your child in one of the many east bay parks or trails in our community.

Keep Your Home Safe - Discard Old Medications
The  DEA National Take Back Day is  Saturday, October 27th from 10am-2pm. Too often, unused prescription and over the counter drugs find their way into the wrong hands. This often leads to dangerous and often tragic situations. Clean out your medicine cabinets and drop off your unused medicines to a  DEA Take Back  Collection Site nearest you.

Attend a Parent Education Discussion
on Substance abuse and dependence
SRVPTA is hosting a panel discussion on Tuesday, 10/23 at 6:30 pm to 8pm at Dougherty Valley High School.

Following a short video presentation, we will host a panel discussion that will cover substance abuse and dependence (alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs), vaping, the Alternatives to Suspension program, emotional well-being, and firearms safety.

Speakers include:
Patty Hoyt and Rachel Kincaid of the Discovery Counseling Center
Jaime Rich of the Center of Human Development; Officer Katie Williams, DVHS Resource Officer
Laurie Borg of Be SMART
Aditi Bagepalli, DVHS Student and Founder of Will Be There.

RSVP  was required by October 19th

Special Thank You
to Parent Volunteers
for Past Events in October!

Run for Education
Bollinger Canyon had 159 registered runners at the Run for Education last weekend (6th Place).  However we had a VERY STRONG Number of Volunteers for the Event (3rd Place) which shows how great our Parents and Teachers are! Thank you to Jennifer Lindsay and Meghan Liese who Co-Chaired this fundraiser.  Through all their efforts and the parents of Bollinger Canyon, we hope to meet our fundraising goal.

Restaurant  Fundraising
Thanks to the parent who enjoyed eating out and helping our school, we have already raised about $700 for the PTA.  We have another fundraiser at Chipotle on 11/16. Thank you to  Marta Wicke on her continued effort to help our school with these Restaurant Fundraising.

Book Fair
The book fair was a great success and it raised more than $6,000 for the school library.  We want to thank the many volunteers that ran the registers and helped in other ways to make the event a success.  Also thank you to Lorissa Wayne who chaired this event with our School Librarian Katrina Deliramich.

Kids Night Out
We raise over a $1,000 for the PTA at this fun event.  We hope all your children had a wonderful time.  A extra special thank you to chairman Sofia Vasania and co-chairman Megha Narang who put on an amazing event. Also thank you to all the parents that chaperoned the event.  This event wouldn't be possible without your help.

Bike Rodeo
We had over 50 children  participate in the Bike Rodeo Event and they all seemed to have a wonderful time.  Thank you to the many Parent Volunteers and Street Smarts Crew that made the event so special.

Reflections

The PTA Art award program received many submissions and we congratulate all the winners (see above).  We would like to thank the chairman Trisha Gunning and Katherine Houk for their work in getting our students talent recognized.
