"Precious in God's Sight!"
Sunday School Kick Off Celebration

Please join this Sunday, September 16th as we celebrate the beginning of our new Sunday School year! Enjoy a delicious brunch after the 10:00 a.m. worship service in the Fellowship Hall by our own chef, Glen Hadley, and team. A donation basket will be at the door to help defray the costs of the brunch.

Children will have the opportunity to meet their new and enthusiastic Sunday School teachers who are looking forward to teaching them more about God's great love for them. Sunday School registration forms will be available for parents.

"Precious in God's Sight" is our theme for the year and young people will discover how they are a precious child of God, dearly loved and wonderfully made with gifts and talents God has blessed them with. What's more, in 2019, children will be invited to develop their own personal service projects using their special gifts and talents to be an expression of God's love and hope to our community and beyond. The children's good works will be shared during our end of the year Children's Sunday on June 9, 2019.

We can't wait to see where God calls us and are looking forward to a wonderful start to our Sunday School year! We hope to see you soon!

The Lord's Prayer

Over the months of April, May and June, we tried using some different words in The Lord's Prayer during worship.  The Deacons hope in doing this was to draw our attention to the words we say so often and to help us think about what they mean.  During the month of September, we will be revisiting the various words and then in the month of October, the Deacons will be including a brief survey in the bulletin to get your input and thoughts on the words and experience.

September 16th
"sins and sinners"

September 23rd
"debts and debtors"

September 30th
"forgive and forgiven"

The Grief Journey
Bereavement Support Group

The loss of a loved one is not well understood or always supported by our society. Deep emotional wounds often caused by the death of a loved one are not unlike physical injuries. Losing a loved one is a real injury that deserves equally prompt attention. Many individuals have benefited from some guidance through the process of grief. Bereavement Support Group meetings provide a safe place to share stories of our loved ones as well as learn about the process of grief with others.

The Grief Journey: Bereavement Support Group will meet on Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., beginning on September 19th, 2018 at the Church of the Holy Family Parish House, 185 Church Street, Hebron, CT. The group is facilitated by grief educators Michael Glazier and Stephanie Haines. All grieving adults are welcome whether your loss is recent or past and you may come to one session or as many as you would like. This support group is non-denominational and brought to you by a collaborative effort of the Hebron Faith Communities. You may call Stephanie Haines at (860) 228-3077 for more information.

Two Services Resume Sunday, September 23rd

On Sunday, September 23rd, we resume our two worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.  Our 10 a.m. worship service includes our Choir and Sunday school.

4th Annual Gilead Golf Open - Wednesday, September 26th

We are just two weeks away from this year's Gilead Open golf outing taking place at Blackledge Country Club on Wednesday, September 26th.  All proceeds from the tournament go to support the missions and ministries of our Church. There is still opportunity to register as a golfer or support the event with a donation.

The Gilead Open committee would like to thank everyone that is supporting the event through Corporate, Tee or Individual sponsorships or through donations for the silent auction or raffle.  For those that are still interested in supporting the event please contact a member of the committee. The deadline for new Corporate or Tee sponsors is Monday, September 17th in order to provide enough time to have signs made.  We are also in need of silent auction or raffle prizes.  Themed gift baskets, gift certificates to local business or golf accessories or apparel are great items for the raffle.

Those participating in the event can look forward to a day of fun and great fellowship. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Golfers will enjoy a continental breakfast, bag lunch, eighteen holes of golf with a cart and an all you can eat buffet dinner featuring prime rib and chicken marsala.  Entry forms are available at the sign-up table in the hall or from a committee member.

If you haven't already, please consider being a part of this "fun" and "fund" raising event for our church.

Gilead Open Committee: Ken Cook, Tim Fellman, Harvey Desruisseaux, Steve Petro, Glen Hadley, Jack Hooker, and Doug Stewart

VEGGIES, EGGS AND A SIDE OF HOPE.
Indonesia is the world's largest island country, with over 13,000 islands. About 28 million Indonesians live in poverty. Where CWS works, 87 percent of households are food insecure.  Through the CWS Timor Zero Hunger program, families are raising chickens and starting or expanding vegetable gardens. Both mean better nutrition and a more diverse diet. Within weeks the families will have eggs and vegetables to eat or sell.
Help CWS bring Hope to Timor families  - Join our CROP walk or donate to a walker!

Scripture Readings and Prayer for the Week
Psalm 139: 1-14a and Mark 9: 30-37

O God, you speak to us in so many ways: through the voices of children, in the stirrings of our hearts, in acts of tenderness and love.  Be with us, we pray, and speak to us so that we may hear your Word and heed your call.  Teach us, as Jesus taught the disciples, that we may not so much aspire to greatness as to faithfulness.   Amen.
