Grade 4 students, Rowan M and Sam F with His Grace, Archbishop Currie.

Farewell, Archbishop Currie
Over his career as Archbishop of St. John's, Archbishop Currie has been continually involved in sharing in Masses with our staff and students, and helping us to keep the Christian Faith and tradition alive and well in our school. To thank him for his continued support, St. Bon's held a luncheon to both congratulate His Grace on his retirement and to thank him for his service to the school.

In attendance were staff, students, members of the Board of Governors, our Alumni Committee, and His Grace,  Archbishop of St. John's  Peter Hundt, Guests enjoyed a light lunch while grade 4 students Sam F. and Rowan M. presented Archbishop Currie with a special thank you gift, part of which was a book designed and created by our grade 4 students. This book included all original artwork from the students, as well as biographical information about Archbishop Currie.

Welcome, Archbishop Hundt
As we bid farewell to Archbishop Currie, we welcome His Grace, Archbishop Peter Hundt as he was installed as Archbishop of St. John's on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019.

His Grace was welcomed with a Mass hosted by the Basilica of St. John the Baptist and His Grace, Archbishop Luigi Bonazzi, Papal Nuncio to Canada. St. Bon's was happy to be invited to participate in this Mass.  Our Wind Ensemble provided a musical tribute, while other students welcomed guests. Bishops from all across Canada travelled in for the installation, and clergy from all over the province were in attendance.

Following the Mass, a reception took place in the school's gymnasium, which was open to the public and anyone who had attended the Mass.

We wish Archbishop Hundt well as he takes on this new position and look forward to working with him.

What's Happening at SBC?
  • On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, players and coaches from the St. John's Edge, a National Basketball League of Canada professional team, joined our Grade 7's for math class in the gym, getting them involved in calculating basketball stats. Afterwards, our K-9 students got to play some ball with the team and had some questions answered!
  • Our Phys. Ed. Program has begun skating lessons with our K-6 students. We are so lucky to have the Forum available to us to help encourage a love of physical activity in our students.
  • Both our Senior Boys and Senior Girls basketball teams walked away with silver in tournaments this month. The Girls' team played a tough game, giving up the gold by only one point! Congrats to all of our athletes and coaches.
Grade 7 Lucy P can't believe the size of Edge player Satnam Singh!

Grade 6's enjoying their first skate of the season.
  • Our Kindergarten classes spent a day at The Rooms museum learning the art of printmaking. They brought back their beautiful masterpieces to decorate their classroom!
  • The Grade 1 classes had a wonderful field trip to First Light Childcare Centre, where they joined the preschoolers in learning about Aboriginal culture, music, games, smudging ceremonies and more!
