September 14, 2018
Hi all,

As a union rep, I get asked these questions a lot: "Do you get the summers off?" Answer: "No, and neither do most educational employees." "Are you as busy in the summer as you are during the school year?" Answer: "I'm busy with summer membership drives and leadership training. But, I don't get as many calls from members because most of them are not at work and their bosses aren't bugging them."

Well, as you are well aware, the summer is over. The calls are coming in. And, not surprisingly, the calls seem to have a central theme: "My boss is bullying me."

It's at this point in a discussion about bully principals/supervisors/administrators when some members begin to lament about the "good old days" of collective bargaining agreements. But I have to stop them cold. No collective bargaining agreement ever had effective remedies for bullying. No current handbook or school board policy does either.

What it takes to stop bullying is COLLECTIVE ACTION. Contact the WR3 office if you'd like some help developing a plan to stop bullying in your school. There's no magic wand; it takes some work to create a safe and enjoyable workplace. It can be done. We can help.

Peace,

Kathy Rohde
Regional Director

Professional Development

Now's the Time

Now's the time to introduce new hires to your Local Association. Why not invite new educators to the WEAC Professional Issues Conference on Oct. 26-28 in Green Bay? Members get a sweet deal on relevant workshops led by Wisconsin Public School educators.

The Professional Issues Conference has strategically been moved from March to October to highlight the quality professional development opportunities available to members early in the school year.

Here's a flyer with the QR code and registration link to share with members.
