Bonnie Cox, LWVIL President |
From the President:
Dear LWVIL Member ,
LWVIL members, staff, and board are off and running with
renewed energy and resolve
in 2019!
The League has been actively pushing for support in the U.S. House of Representatives for HR1, the For the People Act. The League sent a letter of support to all members of Congress highlighting the need for legislation out of civil rights concerns. The League also sent a memo to the U.S. House as part of the LWVUS Lobby Corps assignments. I urge you to take a look at both to read our steadfast resolve on both issues as well as take a look at our talking points on the League Management Site.

Getting Ready for Early Voting - Illinois Voter Guide
The LWVIL voter services initiative, the
Illinois Voter Guide, is available NOW for the upcoming
February 26th Consolidated Primary Election. Other regions, with an April 2nd Consolidated General Election,
will have access to the Illinois Voter Guide beginning February 18th, in time for early voting.
The online guide
provides Illinois voters detailed information about candidates for local elections, including:
- Access to candidate information
- Help to find their ballot
- Access to learn about candidates
- Print outs of their voting choices so they are prepared when they vote
LWVIL encourages local League members and leadership to explore the most recent updates of the site since the November election and be prepared to share the information to the public. New features include a demo page and League-sponsored, two-minute video statements produced by WTTW.
Local Leagues that would like to submit candidate questionnaire responses as
exclusive content
to the Illinois Voter Guide should contact Voter Service Co-Chair Jan Dorner for more information by clicking here.
You can also find helpful information on our Illinois Voter Guide Toolkit to help local Leagues use and promote the guide. This is of great use for Leagues that use business cards and information cards in English and Spanish at registration drives, libraries, and schools to inform voters about this valuable resource.

In-Person Early Voting & Registration
|
|
For the February 26th Municipal Election, Chicago voters will be able to use any Early Voting & Registration location in the city from February 11 through February 25.
Before February 11, Early Voting will begin Tuesday, January 29 only at the Loop Super Site at 175 W. Washington St. Any Chicago voter may use the Loop Super Site.
Any ballots that voters cast in Early Voting are final. After casting ballots in Early Voting, voters may not return to amend, change or undo a ballot for any reason. It is a felony to vote more than once -- or to attempt to vote more than once -- in the same election.
Government-issued photo ID is not required but is helpful if there is a question about the registration, address, signature or if there are two voters with the same or similar names at the same address.
Registration services are available at every Early Voting site. NOTE: Any voter who needs to register for the first time or file an address update or a name change
must show two forms of ID
, one of which shows the voter's current address.
NOTICE: CLOSED ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, DUE TO EXTREME COLD

Equal Pay Day Chicago 2019: Save the Date
Save the date for
Equal Pay Day Chicago on
Thursday, March 28, 2019 during lunchtime rally at Daley Plaza Chicago.
Each year Equal Pay Day is recognized world wide to focus on racial and gender pay disparities. In the United States, the April date symbolically marks how far into a new year the average woman must work to earn as much as the average white man did the previous year. This year, Equal Pay Day 2019, April 2nd, is also Consolidated General Election Day in Illinois.

100 Years Strong: Preparing for LWVIL Centennial
This year, LWVIL will be gearing up for our
100th year celebration
in 2020 of
the women's suffrage movement that led to the enactment of the 19th Amendment on August 26, 1920 and the creation of the League in Chicago on February 14, 1920.
We hope to spend this time commemorating our great works and continued fight to be a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
We will continue to announce upcoming events and actions around the 100th year celebration on the LWVIL website and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
If you would like to become a 100th Year Commemorative donor and help us to celebrate with great events and continued impact, please click
