Welcome Back Message from Superintendent Radulic
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. These words penned by Ralph Waldo Emerson speak to what we ask of our students and ourselves every day. As we prepare for another exciting school year, I hope you have taken time this summer to do something for yourselves, to try something beyond what you have mastered, to rejuvenate and find balance and comfort in your lives.
As with every year, Opening Day is a new beginning and with new beginnings we welcome new members into the Roxbury family. Those new to our illustrious staff joined us for a warm welcome the last week of August at our district's New Staff Orientation. We are also celebrating 13 teachers and four administrators who are earning tenure in their current positions this year. Congratulations! This year's new beginnings also include some new (and familiar) faces in leadership positions. Mr. Dominick Miller begins the year as our new High School Principal. Additional principals in the district include Mr. Paul Gallagher at Eisenhower Middle School and Ms. Nicole Acevedo at Kennedy Elementary School. Mr. Eric Renfors takes on the vice principal role at Lincoln Roosevelt. Ms. Amy Gallagher will head the Special Education Department as Director. Mr. John Bauman begins his first full year as our Buildings and Grounds Director. Mr. Michael Mitchell takes on the challenge as our Director of Innovative Instruction and Planning. And we have three new supervisors beginning their first September with us: Mr. Jeffrey Fascina as our Secondary Mathematics Supervisor, Ms. Jillian Lutz as our Elementary Applied Science Supervisor, and Mr. Eric Schmidt as our Secondary English Supervisor. We look forward to their leadership.

Roxbury Schools Certified Bronze with Sustainable Jersey for Schools
All seven schools in Roxbury Township have met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification. These schools form part of a group of 111 schools that achieved the Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification in 2018. A total of 779 schools and 303 school districts are participating in the program overall.
The Board of Education, administration, and staff all share the belief that education doesn't exist solely in the classroom. We as educators and supporters of education, work to foster student growth academically, as well as personally. We want to produce students who are civic and environmental-minded and who value the health and well-being of themselves and others. In order to do that, we had to walk the walk. We are working to show the students and community what being green and becoming sustainable looks like and the value these changes can have. We are proud of the hard work our students, staff, and administration have put into earning Bronze certification, but our work isn't done yet. Next up, Silver! Roxbury Football Drops Season Opener
In a game its players will want to quickly put out of memory, the Roxbury High School football team last Friday lost its season opener in a trouncing by Sparta.
The high spirits exhibited as the Gaels, on Jr. Gaels day, ran onto the field at dusk were soon whittled away as the Spartans scored on an interception by Sparta's Pat Milliken mere minutes into the first quarter.
Despite a few bright spots for Roxbury during the remainder of the game, the scoreboard, when time ran out, told a tale unfortunate for the Gaels: Sparta 39, Roxbury 0.
