Saturday, November 17 was an exciting day which started off with a $3,000 check presented to NHN by Laura Vassar from the
Fishing With Drew Foundation
! With the numbers we fed on Saturday we will definitely need it to replenish our food products!

Amherst County Department of Social Services employees
helped with canned items & food - enough to fill up a large crate!! THANKS for your support!

A huge shout out of thanks to
Lowe's Heroes
for their incredible donation of materials and manpower for three days to build a sharp looking portico for our entryway and shelves for our new storage area. NHN is so grateful for business partners who will stand in the gap to help strengthen our infrastructure so that we can focus our energy on the clients we serve.

We ended the day on Saturday, November 17, with the
Rubies (Respectful, Unique, Beautiful, Intelligent, Encouraging, Sisterhood), a group from Monelison Middle School
who came and cleaned up after our food distribution. They also restocked our shelves!

- A big thank you to JT Grill for providing the entree on Wednesday, October 31 at our MHBC NHN Food Kitchen. Our guests enjoyed the chicken and gravy!
- Our Ascension Food Kitchen is grateful to Mount Olive Baptist Church for reaching out to help with our Thanksgiving meal by providing sweet potato casserole, green beans and desserts.
- Thanks to Madison Heights Baptist Church for the donation of fried chicken, variety of desserts, and sweet tea which was served on Wednesday, November 7 at the NHN Food Kitchen, and for the yeast rolls which were served Thursday, November 8 at the Ascension Food Kitchen. These were items left over from a Stewardship Dinner at the church. What a great way to be a good steward and pass along for others to enjoy!
- November 16 was a thank-filled day! Thanks to Campbell Insurance employees for their collection of food items & Greif Manufacturing for the turkeys.
- Special thanks to Hair Gallery in the Town of Amherst for collecting food products for the warehouse. What a great way to give back to your community!
- Thanksgiving week we had assistance from the following that we would like recognize who helped make our Thanksgiving meal special. NHN served a total of 121 guests a traditional Thanksgiving meal:
- The Briar Patch for cooking turkeys for our Amherst Food Kitchen
- Waterstone Pizza for providing dressing for both Food Kitchens.
- Mount Olive Baptist Church for preparing green beans, sweet potato, and chocolate pound cake for our Amherst Food Kitchen.
- Jan Thomas and Paula Stinnette for preparing fruit salads to compliment the meals.
- All those who provided delicious desserts - Paula Stinnette, Shelia Harvey, Sue Godsey, Teresa Russell, Betty Lambdin, Kathy Chase.

Food Kitchens & Warehouse sign up -
Do you have 1 morning a month that you would like to volunteer somewhere?
NHN has spots available in our Madison Heights and Amherst Food Kitchens.
If you have a Wednesday or Thursday open just once a month, we can use your help. Kitchen volunteers work from 9:00 -1:00 and servers from 10:00 - 1:00.
We serve a hot meal each Wednesday at MHBC Food Kitchen & a hot meal each Thursday at Ascension Episcopal Church in Amherst.

- Donation Pickup Volunteer - URGENT NEED for someone available on Thursday mornings from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM to use the NHN van to pick up from Target in Lynchburg. The items are taken to the Food Warehouse on Mitchell Bell Road, weighed in and stored. Please contact NHN if you can sign up weekly or even once a month!
- Food Pantry Guest Pick up
- Bake desserts for Food Kitchens
YOUTH GROUPS & CHURCH GROUPS
- Can Drive Follow up - sorting and shelving cans
- Food Pantry Cart Runners (should be at least 16 or accompanied by an adult if under 16).
- Cleaning & stocking post-distribution day. Could be scheduled on Saturday or on the following Monday.
- Collect plastic recycle bags for Food Pantry
- Collect food cans for Food Pantry
