Please read the following information thoroughly as it contains important information regarding course selection, re-enrollment, and tuition assistance for the 2019-2020 school year.
Course Selection
Junior High
Junior High students received a list of courses for 2019-2020. Please review that list with them, provide the necessary parent signature, and return the course selection form with your 7th or 8th grade student by Friday, February 1, 2019. Junior high students will register for courses online during computer class in early February.

Senior High
Senior High students should be talking with their subject level teachers regarding appropriate course selection for 2019-2020. Beginning Monday, February 4, students in grades 9 through 11 will have access to the online course selection portal in Vision. This will remain open for three weeks. During this time, students should select their courses for next school year. After completing the process online, students are instructed to print the course selection sheet and have each of their teachers sign next to the desired subject courses. A parent signature is required as well. These forms will be due
February 22, 2019.
Parents, please take the time to review our course catalog for next school year. We are excited to be offering three new courses: Yearbook for grades 11-12, Music Technology for grades 9-12, and Computer Science Discoveries for grades 9-10.
Re-enrollment
In an effort to prepare for the budget and enrollment numbers for next year, our re-enrollment process is aligned with our course selection. Tuition figures for next year will be published in early April after budget approval by the School Board. In order to budget appropriately, we are asking families to re-enroll now. The early re-enrollment fee is $150.00. After
February 22, 2019, the re-enrollment fee will increase to $200.00, with an increase to $250.00 after April 5, 2019. As in the past, $150.00 of the re-enrollment fee will be applied to your child's 2019-2020 tuition.
Tuition Assistance

Place your order by January 31!
Even though the 2019 color yearbooks are not distributed until May, NOW is the time to place your order for a book. Extra yearbooks are not available in May. Only what is ordered is delivered to YC for distribution.

| Musical Program Ads Available |
York Catholic is accepting advertisements from supporters and local businesses for its spring musical program for "Cinderella." Prices for ads are as follows:
- Full page (7 1/2" x 4 1/2") - $100
- Half Page (7 1/2 x 4 1/2") - $60
- Quarter Page (1 3/4 x 4 1/2) - $30
- 100 character messages - $10

The first Friday of the month is usually Spirit Shirt Friday where students pay $1 toward the YC Technology Fund to dress in a YC spirit shirt. Instead of Spirit Shirt Friday tomorrow, and in celebration of Catholic School Week, all students can fully dress down (jeans are OK), but must keep within the spirit of wearing green or gold. There is no charge for dressing down.

he 7th & 8th Grade students are invited to the Junior High Pink Out Dance on
Friday, February 8,
from 7-9 PM in the cafeteria. Cost is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets are on sale during lunch

Mini-THON®
is just around the corner and all senior high students who are interested in participating
can register by submitting the Permission Slip and a $20 registration fee during the week of February 4. A
$30 minimum donation for The Four Diamonds must be submitted by Friday, February 22. Donations can be given to Mrs. Wertz in room 103 at YC or paid online using The Four Diamonds Online Social Fundraising Website, DonorDrive at https://fourdiamonds.donordrive.com/event/yorkcatholichsminithon.
All donations go towards helping conquer pediatric cancer.

Any interested sophomore is invited and encouraged to take the PSAT 10 this spring at York Catholic. The PSAT 10 mirrors the PSAT, and offers a tenth grader the opportunity to preview and practice for the actual PSAT without stress over score reporting. Scores from the PSAT 10 are not reported and do not impact college applications in any way. Students benefit from the opportunity to engage with the material and become familiar with the format of the test before taking the PSAT in October of their junior year. PSAT test scores do count; those scores are referenced to determine Merit Scholars, and free practice tests are available online through College Board. Features of the PSAT 10 are as follows:
- The PSAT 10 is a three-hour exam, featuring a math section and a reading/writing section.
- Each section is worth 760 points for a possible total composite of 1520.
- The math section targets algebra and advanced math problems. A spring testing session is optimal as sophomores will be concluding a year of Algebra II.
The test will be offered in the York Catholic library from 8-11 AM on Saturday, April 13. Any interested sophomore must register by February 15. Our annual Talent Show takes place Friday, February 1, at 1:30 PM where our students get an opportunity to showcase their talents for their peers and teachers. Families are welcome to attend.

| Bishop Gainer & Stewardship |
Bishop Ronald W. Gainer will join us on Tuesday, February 5, at 1 PM in the auditorium to introduce a representative from Stewardship: A Mission of Faith, who will speak to the students about taking religion from a subject learned to an exciting faith that is lived. Students will experience how faith and fun truly go hand in hand. Families are welcome to attend.

| York County High School Honors Band |
Congratulations to the following students who auditioned and were selected to participate in the York County High School Honor Band Festival: left to right - Mason Kovach (trumpet), Patrick Farrell (percussion), Hunter Karpulk (trombone), Dominic Blanchard (baritone saxophone), Nate Gingerich (trumpet), and Emily Danczyk (clarinet). These students will perform in the York County High School Honor Band Festival Concert on Saturday, February 2, at 2:30 PM at West York Middle School.

The members of the School Study to Strengthen & Sustain Catholic Education (SASCE) would like to thank each of you for your patience as we have worked to develop a plan for the future of Catholic elementary school education in the York Deanery. We appreciate the interest expressed by so many, through participation in the process, attendance at our Town Hall meeting, and responding to our survey. We have tried to listen to every voice and take your words to heart.
While it would be impossible to summarize all of the input received, we would like to highlight a few key themes. First, there is an evident passion for the future of Catholic elementary schools in the York area. Likewise, it is abundantly clear that each of you loves and values your individual school, its teachers and principal, and the community that exists there. There was general acknowledgement of several important points, including the decline in enrollment, the increased financial burden placed on the parishes and parents, and the need for something to change. In addition, many of you recognized the tremendous task that was placed before our committee and the impressive amount of work that has gone into developing a proposal. We would like to echo that recognition and offer our thanks to everyone involved.
The pastors are committed to continue the tradition of working within their parishes to offer Catholic school education to our community. Through the course of the School Study, there is now a refreshed attention and willingness toward greater collaboration among pastors and principals. We will work to take the best elements of our original plans and work together to gain the benefits of these ideas.
A Deanery Advisory Committee for Elementary School Education will be created to plan collaborative efforts between all schools where it makes sense, and solicit additional input from the individual parishes on the best path forward. The committee will be comprised of Pastoral and Lay leadership, the York Deanery school principals, and representatives from each parish. Particular attention will be placed on collaborative opportunities within Academics, Clubs/Athletics, Social/Family, Fundraising/Marketing/Awareness, and Administration.
We will provide regular updates on our progress through parish bulletins and school newsletters. We are encouraged by the passion of the Catholic community to continue offering Catholic education in the York Deanery and look forward to your continued support.

During inclement weather that would cause a school closing or delay of schedule, York Catholic will call/text/email you through our One Call Now Emergency Notification system. Other modes of notification include WGAL TV-8, Fox43, and the YC website. Students from individual school districts are automatically excused if their district closes and does not provide transportation to YCHS. The exceptions to this are Southern and Southeastern. These students follow York Catholic's delay and closing schedule.
