Administrative Update

There is a change in the air

I love September! There is a change in the air and the daylight times are getting shorter. The leaves are starting to change and our students are getting smarter every day!

White Pine Charter School was recently recognized as a Top Performing K-8 school for Math Growth for 2017-18. A top performer means our school ranked in the 90th percentile or above on any indicator in the accountability framework.  We were also recognized as a Goal Maker. Goal makers are schools whose overall performance meets or exceeds the interim measures of progress toward the state's long-term goals for English language arts/literacy, math, growth toward English language proficiency and graduation rate.

Our teachers are providing some of the highest quality of learning in Eastern Idaho. I would encourage every one to reach out to your student's teacher.  Let them know of the tremendous impact that they are having.  If you have questions, please give them a call or email.  Our teachers love open communication with our families.

We are also very excited for an up coming field trip.  Our 7th and 8th graders will be going to Yellowstone National Park in a few week.  We have a great trip planned for them.  If you would like to be involved as chaperone, please let Ms. Whitworth know.
Remember to have your child read every night. Have fun!

Enrichment Clubs

White Pine Charter School is gearing up for K-8 Enrichment Clubs under the direction of Ms. Trust. The plan is to launch these programs in the next few weeks. More information will be available soon, but some of the clubs we hope to offer are Science Discovery, Creative Writing, Math Puzzles, Debate, and more. If you have any interest in leading or helping contact Ms. Trust at [email protected].

Please take the time to fill out this short survey to help us guide the program.

Academic Coaching

We are a firm beleiver in our mission statement "Success for Every Student." In addition to Enrichment Clubs we will be starting Academic Coaching in the coming weeks. Mrs. Day and Mrs. Tracy have agreed to head up this venture. The program is meant for those students that need extra help AND those students that are motivated to get ahead. Our team is dedicated to developing a plan for each child and it is free! Stay tuned for more information.

Exciting News from our Board of Directors

We are excited to welcome you back to school and hope you are just as excited to be back! We have been working hard alongside administration over the summer to ensure you have the best White Pine experience ever this year. We hope you notice improvements inside the school, including many fantastic new teachers that joined our family!

Over the summer we had our board elections. Thank you to everyone who participated! Amber Beck and Joni Larsen were elected to a three year term, Jakob Miller was appointed to finish the remainder of term of a resigned board member. Amber Beck has since resigned and we are actively looking to appoint another board member to fulfill her term.

Our board goals have been established and we are working toward improving the academic quality of your student's education here at White Pine and expanding to grades 9-12 for your students to continue their education. The charter expansion has been completed and submitted to the Charter Commission! This is the first step toward a new high school. We have been busy building relationships to further our efforts in establishing a facility.

Our high school will be STEM focused and the board has done and continues to do research to create a unique and vibrant school. This year you will see more emphasis and engagement in STEM areas. Middle schoolers will find STEM in many of their classes. This should be an exciting year!

We have allocated extra funds to be used for enriching classroom learning through our Academic Coaching program, other various after school activities and more technology in the classrooms.

We extend an invitation to each of you as White Pine stakeholders to attend our monthly board meetings held at  6:30 PM  on the last Tuesday of every month. Here is where you can learn of all the school happenings, academic progress and expansion efforts.

Message from our PFA

White Pine Charter School PFA is for building up our school community between the staff, parents, and students. A b ig thanks to everyone who bought our new Spirit Shirts. We had a new design and new colors this year.

The WPCS Fall Carnival is  Sept 28th from  6-8pm. An insurance form needs to be signed and returned if your child will be jumping in the bounce house.

The PFA volunteer of the month is JoAnna Stark. We thank her for all of her hard work in the new design of our Spirit Shirts and all she does for the children at our school.

Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions

The school year is off to a phenomenal start!    As we kick off this new year we will be focused on helping instill and remind students of WPCS values.    Cougars are Willing, Positive, Connected, and Significant.    Your child has been busy learning these expectations, how they benefit your student and building a positive school environment. Students are quickly learning the expectations.

Our kickoff assembly featured Willing Woman, Positive Princess, Captain Connected, and The Significant Surfer.    These super heroes were kind enough to come to our school and teach us about the expectations.  Throughout September we are focused on reviewing all of the expectations before diving into willing during October.
