GTCF, MultiCare and dozens of community partners joined forces on August 15th to provide a free Health Fair open to all Tacoma Public Schools students.  With locations at Lincoln High School and Baker Middle School, the Health Fair brought together a volunteer crew of doctors, nurses, dentists, and other healthcare professionals who were able to serve over 350 students all in one afternoon.

Inspired by the women who gave her a vision for a different future despite numerous adverse childhood experiences, T'Wina Nobles used her Spark Grant award to help put on an Environmental Justice Camp for young women of color.  

"I believe in the power of exposing young people to things that can change their lives forever.  So if I want more girls to be thinking about science and STEM or believing that they can be a chemist, a biologist, or something in that field, then I want to do my part by putting it in front of them." - T'wina Nobles

Greater Tacoma Community Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Board (YPB) connects young people with a passion for their community to the skills and tools necessary to cultivate change.  Through this year-long commitment, YPB members will have the opportunity to learn more about local youth services and use their newly acquired skills to make grant recommendations for youth serving organizations.

Back in July, GTCF issued three responsive grants to provide immediate resources for legal services and ongoing individual supports for local immigrants.  Tacoma Community House, Colectiva Legal del Pueblo, and the City of Tacoma Deportation Defense fund which has contracted with Northwest Immigrant Rights Project to act as a service provider, all received grants.

Over the past few months, each of these organizations have had to respond to rapid changes in the needs of the immigrant and refugee communities they serve.

At Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, we've seen how much more we can accomplish when we work together.  Since 1981, community members have shared their commitment to a thriving Pierce County by partnering with GTCF to bring their vision to life and build a legacy for future generations.

Each year, philanthropic leaders from around our region come together for the South Sound Philanthropy Summit, hosted by two volunteer-led organizations, AFP South Sound (AFPSS) and South Sound Planned Giving Council (SSPGC), with the goal of bringing together development professionals, allied professionals and philanthropists for a day of education and networking.
