I Corinthians 13:1-13
In Paul's letter to the church in Corinth, he says that the ways of faith, hope and love are indicators that we are followers of Jesus the Christ. Of all those qualities, Paul lifts up love as the most powerful and important - for even when we have many other qualities such as: eloquent speech, prophetic powers, or intricate knowledge of the mysteries of life - if we do not have love, express love and receive love, we have nothing.
So as we kick off the month of February, let us ruminate on what love is for us; and I'm not simply talking about Eros, or romantic love. Did you know that some modern writers talk about seven different kinds of love? Suffice it to say that our Christian Faith Tradition urges us to be intentional and decisive about being loving - in all its forms. Without that we are nothing. As we move into our new church space within the First United Methodist Church; as we get used to a new parking spot, a new pew to sit in, a new relationship with a building owner, let us remember to cultivate that notion of love as we approach all of this change. For deep down, despite outer appearances, the traditions and teachings of God and Jesus remain the same - they call us to be people who express radical love towards God and one another.
I invite every one of us to come to worship this Sunday - our first worship in our new Chapel space at our new time of 11:30!! What on earth will you do Sunday morning before worship... have brunch, read the paper, walk your dog, do laundry, stay up late on Saturday night, etc. Enjoy your leisurely Sunday morning before worship and join us at 500 E. Colorado this week!

This Sunday is Communion Sunday which means we will put out our basket to receive non-perishable food items for the Friends in Deed food pantry and the Good Samaritan envelope will be stapled to your bulletin. All monies collected for that will be used for outreach. After worship you are invited to the FUMC Fellowship Hall for an extended Coffee Hour. Sallie will be providing food for us to eat while we visit and enjoy coffee and our new space.
Parking should be easier this Sunday since the Methodists worship at 10 and should vacate some of the parking spaces near the building for us by 11:15. You may also park in the Kaiser lot each Sunday until 2 p.m. enter than on El Dorado. Five dedicated spots for SENIORS will be right near the church for those who do not want to walk very far. Sallie will be on hand with another staff person to help you get oriented on our first Sunday in the FUMC Chapel. There are no steps to maneuver from the parking lot to the Chapel.
Our Choir will practice at 10:30 with Connie in the Chapel and the Bride's Room (adjacent to the Chapel) will be open for us to gather in and/or drink coffee/tea from a cart for those who come a few minutes early. The regular Coffee Hour and drinks will be ready for us in the Fellowship Hall after worship each week. Sallie and staff have stocked our pews with our Bible and Hymnals, our paraments and usher plates have been brought over along with our Bible and our 125th Celebration Quilt; our name tags are waiting for us; even our piano has arrived to our new space and Andy Whitenack is tuning it for us. All of which is to say, the place has been prepared for our arrival! So come, enjoy and celebrate our new church space. And let us thank God for this blessing and the incredible hospitality extended to us by the folks at the First United Methodist Church.
This Sunday our children will go to the Nursery as usual with our nursery providers (there will be some overlap with FUMC children the first 15 or so minutes each week), and our Church School class will be held up in our 3rd Floor Main Office.
Church School will be led by Grace Rinck and Jeff Tyler this Sunday in our main office space on the 3rd floor - room 302 at the top of the stairs.
Finally, Connie has invited Damon Zick to be our guest musician this week, playing his saxophone for us. Hope to see you Sunday!!
Looking Ahead:
Our Budget Committee under the direction of our Vice Moderator Krysty Leckrone is meeting this week to finalize the budget. Please plan to attend the Budget Forum after worship on Sunday Feb. 10th.
And Sunday Feb. 17th is our next Bad Weather Shelter date. Please sign up with Joey Bland if you can help out with setting up cots and preparing and serving food that evening.
Stewardship Update
We have heard from almost everyone and now have 42 pledging units - one more than last year!
