STUDENT AFFAIRS NEWS

Upcoming Retreats
  • March for Life Retreat- CCHS will be running a bus to the March for Life on January 18, 2019. Students will leave CCHS at 6:15am and return at 7pm. The cost of the trip will be $45 to cover the coach bus, metro tickets, donuts and juice for breakfast. Permission slips and payment were due by January 4, 2019.
There is a waiting list at this point to attend. We will start sending out permission slips to the waiting list on January 7, 2019 and spots will then be first come, first serve. Students are asked to bring money for lunch. Students will attend the Pro Life mass at the Basilica and travel by metro to the March for Life. This is a powerful experience for students to stand up and march for the dignity of all life, especially the unborn. We ask for your prayers for the success of this retreat. Those who have not done a retreat yet this year, this is a great option.

  • Gift of Mission - Junior Girls Retreat
Any junior girl interested in going on the Gift of Mission retreat to the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse on February 13, 2019 should please sign up in Rm 114 by January 16, 2019. There is a $5 fee for this retreat for the bus and lunch is provided. Come explore the gifts the Lord has given you and how you can use these gifts in the world.
Christian Service Progam
Verification of Christian service hours for the first semester were due December 10, 2018.
As a reminder  Christian service is an annual school requirement and students will not be eligible to participate fully in other extracurricular activities and events if they have not fulfilled their service obligations.

We are in the process of loading the hours on Renweb. You can find the hours under the family tab, and then the Service Hour tab.

Upcoming Service Opportunities
St. Anthony's School with the Catholic Partnership Schools is seeking Camden Catholic students to help with their SOAR program that runs from Monday-Thursday for 5th-8th graders. Each day there is an hour of homework help from 3-4 and then enrichment clubs from 4-5 pm. Clubs have ranged from chess, sports, art, science, and more! Each club runs 1 day a week for (at least) 6 weeks.

It would be a great way for students (especially juniors and seniors) to gain service hours, as well as add volunteer experience to college and scholarship applications.

The next session of SOAR starts January 7th. Please contact Ms. Pollard at mpollard@cspschools.org or see Ms. Clinton in Rm 114.

Christ the King Religious Education in Haddonfield  is looking for student volunteers to help us out during classes on Mondays. See flyer on bulletin board outside of the Dining Hall for more details or stop by Rm 114 and see Ms. Clinton.

Freshman Transition Meetings
The freshman will have two meetings this coming week as part of the Freshman Transition program. One will cover preparing for midterm exams and will be presented by Sara Otremsky, NHS president and Ms. Clinton. The other will be about the Freshman Semi Formal on February 8, 2019. Paperwork for the dance will be distributed to students in homeroom.

NHS Midterm Exam Study Nights
The NHS will hold study sessions for Midterm exams in the Information Commons from 6pm to 8pm on January 15th and January 16th. NHS students will be available for study help at the study nights.
MID-TERM EXAMS: JANUARY 22-24

Students will begin preparation for midterm examinations this week. These assessments count for twenty percent of the semester grade, and should be approached seriously.

The midterm examination schedule is as follows:
January 22: English and Social Studies
January 23: Math and World Language
January 24: Science and Religion

Each day we will follow a similar schedule . The first exam will start at 8:25. The second exam will start at 10:05. Dismissal will be at 11:30. Students who have already qualified for extended time accommodations will receive separate instructions.

Students should make every effort to be in school each day for Midterms. Only an absolute, documented, emergency should keep a student from taking the midterm exam on the scheduled day. These are outlined in the Student Handbook, and exclude travel plans. Parents should call the attendance office by 8:00 AM any day an emergency prevents a student from taking the exam.  Make-up exams will be given on January 25, 2019.
