Dignity Fund Legislation Moves Forward
The Dignity Fund Coalition took another
important step forward toward getting a funding measure on the November 8th ballot, as revised legislation moved to the Board of Supervisors Rules Committee.
The
Dignity Fund ballot measure provides an important foundation of s
ustained funding for services and support to ensure that San Francisco seniors and adults with disabilities are able to live with dignity,
independence
, and
choice
in their homes and communities.
The legislation now has the support of a majority of the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor. Plan to join us for a Rally on the steps of City Hall on
July 19 at 12:30 followed by the expected vote by the Board of Supervisors.

Supervisors Increase Funding and Support
Leaders like Jessica Lehman of Senior and Disability Action virtually lived at City Hall for three days last week to help make sure requested funding for seniors and people with disabilities were included on the Board of Supervisor's "Add-Back" list. And their perseverance paid off! Highlights include:
* Food Security - $2.5 million
* Support at Home - $650,000
* Rent Subsidies - $1.5 million
* Senior Fitness - $200,000
* Other Senior & Disability Services - $450,000
These recommendations must still be approved by the Board of Supervisors in July. You can see the entire add-back list here thanks to the Human Services Network.

Connections for Healthy Aging Empower Seniors
CLC's Connections for Healthy Aging workshop is growing its team of trainers and support. Linda Silver and Marcia Peterzell welcome Maria Guillen, Eugene Lim and Mariza Villagomez. They join Rochelle Towers and Jennifer Walsh in facilitating discussions on myths of aging, asking for help, advocating for ourselves and others in healthcare settings, and much more.

CLC Food Networks - A Study in Resilence
We are extremely grateful for the flexibility and dedication of all the volunteers and community organizations who continue to make sure 150 seniors and people with disabilities get their groceries no matter what the challenge!
The Park Merced University Park (PUP) Team is organizing their summer delivery in the Catholic Charities parking lot at 50 Broad Street. Hopefully, the weather will stay good until they can return to Minnie and Lovie Ward Rec Center in the Fall.

A Great Grand Opening in the Bayview
A joyful community helped celebrate the Grand Opening of the Dr. George Davis Senior Center and Residence on June 25.
Beverly Taylor was the closing speaker in a program graced with dignitaries, including Mayors Brown and Lee, Supervisor Malia Cohen, Senator Mark Leno and Boardmember Linda Richardson.
Special recognition due to Cathy Davis and the Bayview Senior Services Board of Directors for seeing this project through many challenges to this sunny opening day. CLC is excited to be moving their Food Delivery Network to this new site and to working with the SF Tech Council and Comcast to make sure all the residents "get connected". Aging & Disability Friendly SF Marks Turning Point
A lot is happening with Aging and Disability Friendly SF! They are moving into a new
phase, with a more formal Task Force that will be taking up finishing the baseline assessment and plan. At the same time, a number of other Aging and Disability Friendly SF activities will continue building the movement. More information will be shared over the next few months, so stay tuned! The

Denise Cheung Moves To An Active Life in Retirement
Long time Director of the Office on Aging, Denise Cheung, was honored at a recent Aging and Adult Services Commission meeting. Joined by new Executive Director Shireen McSpadden, Denise received praise and warm wishes as she moves into retirement. Denise has overseen CLC's DAAS Contracts from the very beginning and we wish her the best in the next stage of her journey.

Recent stories in the New York Times commented on how the emergence of an older homeless population is creating daunting challenges for social service agencies and governments already struggling to fight poverty. In San Francisco, the numbers of homeless individuals 60 and older has grow 30% since 2007, from 856 in 2007 to 1103 last year. Media outlets have set aside June 29th as a day for focused press about the issue to look
Beyond Homelessness. This week, The Chronicle joins more than 70 other news organizations to focus San Francisco's attention on the seemingly intractable problem of homelessness in our city. The
SF Homeless Project is exploring possible solutions that might ease, if not end, the suffering of so many thousands of people living on our streets, and improve the quality of life for all residents.
