Welcome!

Welcome Sharon Coombs , our VCU MSW Intern who will be here through April 2019 and Genifer Ross who is our seasonal part-time Administrative Coordinator during this busy fall season.

Become a Community Partner!
Did you know that each year over 50 community partners throughout Virginia host events & fundraisers to support VBCF? Last year, these superstars raised more than $100,000 for our programs to benefit women and men experiencing breast cancer!

VBCF makes it easy for businesses and organizations to keep their giving local and show their support for ending breast cancer. We offer free educational materials, event give-a-ways and social media content and graphics that community partners can use to promote their event. If you know of a business or organization that would like to give back during breast cancer awareness month, share our community fundraising information or have them contact kirsta@vbcf.org
Order your breast cancer awareness materials & help us spread the word!
Each year, VBCF distributes up to 75,000 FREE brochures to educate Virginians about breast cancer. Fall is fast approaching, so be sure and order your materials before October rush! Brochures are available in English and Spanish and other giveaway items (pink ribbon stickers, pens, etc) are also available by donation.
Do you know someone who needs a newly diagnosed packet?
VBCF has added to our Newly Diagnosed packets, including information on genetic testing, relaxation techniques, metastatic breast cancer, and triple negative breast cancer, as well as information for children and/or caregivers. Click here to review or order our Newly Diagnosed packet
VBCF is working to enact federal legislation,  H.R. 6114, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act , that would waive the 24-month waiting period for Medicare eligibility and the 5-month waiting period for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits for individuals with metastatic breast cancer. The median life expectancy for patients with metastatic breast cancer is just 36 months, so these waiting periods create an undue burden on the patient and their families trying to receive timely access to quality health care services.

No  Virginia Representatives have yet signed on to support this bill.  We need to change this!

VBCF has continued to contact all members of our Virginia congressional delegation regarding this bill but hearing directly from constituents is even more important. Please  contact your Representative  today to ask him/her to support this bill. For more information see our  September 13 Advocacy Alert.
Virginia Medicaid Expansion: New Health Coverage for Adults
Starting January 1, 2019, more than 300,000 adults living in Virginia will have access to low-cost health coverage. Eligibility is based on income, with a single adult making up to $16,754 or a family of three up to $28,677, qualifying for coverage. Assistance is available to help Virginians enroll, and the state’s Department of Medical Assistance Services will begin taking applications for new adult coverage after November 1, 2018. Visit CoverVa.org for the latest information.
In Memoriam: Stan Brock
Virginia and the world have lost a great man to cancer. Remote Area Medical's founder and president Stan Brock recently passed away at the age of 82. Brock founded the Remote Area Medical (RAM) program that began serving far southwest Virginians in 2000 and continues as the largest medical outreach in the United States, having served over 100,000 patients in total.

VBCF has hosted the Becky's Place health education tent at RAM annually since in honor of Becky Morris, a former Board member and volunteer extraordinaire who was taken by breast cancer too soon.
