NHN Is Awarded Two Important Grants
|
|
Centra Foundation and Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation
|
|
On June 6, 2018, NHN received a
$9,000 grant
from
the Centra Foundation
. The gift will be used toward the purchase of a cargo van which will be used for food distribution.
NHN President, Garry Friend commented, "We are excited to have The Centra Foundation partner with us in this project. The van will improve our ability to collect and distribute food in a more efficient and safe manner. The support of such an organization as the Centra Foundation is a great example of how a major business gives back to their community in which they serve."
Later on June 21, 2018, NHN received a
$2,225 grant
from the
Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation
just in time to help feed local residents. NHN will use the gift to purchase food and a projector to enhance methods of nutritional education to clients, presenting slide shows about healthy food choices and preparation during wait times.
NHN President Garry Friend commented, "Food Lion has always been a great partner of NHN. They set a good example of how a business can give back to the community. We have always been able to count on Food Lion to assist us in our mission...and that's powerful."

- Not only did God bless NHN with the generous grants this month, but we received word that Amherst Town Council voted to include NHN in their budget for $1,500. We are so thankful to Amherst Town Council members who understand the needs in our area and how much this will help with Food Purchases.
- A shout out of gratitude to Northminster Presbyterian Church for including NHN information in your monthly newsletter. Because of friends like you, NHN's mission is spread within our community to help our community!

Thank you to the children of
Madison Heights Baptist Church
who took time during their Vacation Bible School (June 11-15) to wrap silverware and make placemats for the NHN Food Kitchens. Also, thanks to the older children who picked greens from the church's community garden, washed and bagged it to be given away at the NHN Food Warehouse on Saturday, June 16th.
Makes you smile to see even the children of our county helping. God Bless!

This month, we are spotlighting
Judy Dudley
. Retired from CVTC, she divides her time between NHN, the DAR, and her home church Amelon United Methodist. She wears many hats as a lead server and kitchen manager at MHBC food kitchen. She is adored by the children for her cheerfulness and great hugs. She is greatly loved by guests and co-volunteers for her heart in serving others and having a song for every occasion! Thank you, Judy, for your service!
