We sing about the fire of the Holy Spirit and we read about Moses and the burning bush, but as a general rule we like to keep fire as a metaphor and not a reality. This is why I'm thankful our Safety Committee is leading us in a fire drill at the end of worship on Sunday. It's a common practice for schools, businesses, and even churches - in the rare case of emergency, it makes a world of difference if people have practiced and feel confident in how to respond. Fire drills don't have to be dreary though! The local fire department will be swinging by with a fire truck for all the Edgewood kids (and even for you grownup truck lovers) to check out. I hope you'll join us for a meaningful worship service capped with an important safety practice. I'll do my part and promise to keep the fire puns to a minimum.

Peace,
Liz

PAINTING PARTY!
Join Marcia and Crew this S unday 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. to paint the wall in the youth room.  If you are able to help, be sure to wear clothes suitable for painting.  Marcia will have brushes, rollers, and drop cloths ready to go.

Personal Needs Items in October
We will be collecting personal needs items for Christian Services during the month of October.  Items most needed are toilet paper, all kinds of soaps, paper towels, toothpaste/brushes, deodorant, and Kleenex. The collection bin will be in the hallway near the social hall.  In addition to helping with personal needs, Christian Services tries to identify other needs of the family seeking help and identify root causes of their crisis situation.   -Mary Ann Baumgartner,  Outreach/Mission Team

LOOKING AHEAD
One of our Loaves and Fishes meals falls on Wednesday, Dec. 26th.  We do not have a volunteer for that date so here's an idea:  Let's join forces and offer to prepare PART of the meal.  Please let Sylvia know if you are able to prepare an entrĂ©e, a veggie dish, a fruit dish, rolls or dessert. These items should all be frozen since Sylvia plans to take the dinner over to Loaves and Fishes on Friday, Dec. 21 and store it in their freezer until it is needed on Wednesday, Dec. 26.  We just need 5 folks to make this work!!  Please contact Sylvia Stevens at 517-351-1684 or [email protected] if you can help!
