Annual Campaign Update!

Dear Families and Friends of Temple Emanu-El,

There are a lot of exciting programs planned for the new year and the Annual Campaign is an important part of our budget. As you can see, we are nearly halfway there -- we have now reached $34,810!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already donated. We know we can reach this goal with the support of each and every one of you!

Legacy Shabbat Service

Join us in recognition of L'Dor V'Dor Legacy Society members, as well as supporters of Hillel of Silicon Valley, who will be honored for their commitment to making a Legacy gift to these beloved organizations .
Yoga Minyan
Saturday, October 20th at 9:00 AM
Join Rabbi Laurie Matzkin for a Shabbat yoga class in the BFR, combining mindful movement, creative ritual and reflective study. This class is gentle and suitable for all levels, with modifications offered to meet individual needs. Come with a beginners mind and an open heart, and get ready to stretch your body into Shabbat!
Rock Shabbat
Friday, October 26th at 7:30 PM
Preceded by our Wine and Cheese Reception at 6:30 PM
An innovative and joyous worship experience with musicians and singers joining Cantor Amanda Edmondson and Rabbi Dana Magat. Congregational singing is definitely encouraged, as is dancing in the aisles. All members and non-members are invited to a service like you’ve never been to before. Tot Shabbat with Catered Dinner
Friday, October 19th at 6:00 PM
Families with young children will enjoy upbeat songs, a short story, and a talk with the Rabbi on the bimah. All are welcome to these brief services on the third Friday of each month. Stay after services and enjoy a delicious dinner provided by Sisterhood, of course at no charge!
Havdalah, Dinner, and Movie with the Green Team
Saturday, October 20th at 6:30 PM
Join us for the Green Team’s first social and educational event of the year on Saturday, October 20th.  We will be serving a delicious vegetarian meal and showing an entertaining, family friendly movie. The festivities begin with Havdalah at 6:30. Coffee Talk with La Prez

Family Taste of Judaism

Sisterhood Game Night

BIG fun for a SMALL price! Enjoy family game night. We will have lots of board games available to play, and occasionally get a game of Poker or Mah Jongg together.
Member Prices : $2.50/person, $7/family
Non-Member Prices : $3/person, $10/family
PLUS bring a (non-dessert) snack to share!
Cold drinks, coffee and tea, and dessert provided by Sisterhood. You may bring other liquid refreshment.
Shabbatluck

Everyone is welcome to join our congregational family for a Shabbatluck Dinner. These potluck dinners take place throughout the religious school year on the first Friday of each month before the Erev Shabbat Family Service. Please reply to admin@templesanjose.org with the dish you are bringing.
Shabbat in Nature
Saturday, November 3rd at 10:00 AM
Join us for our Shabbat in Nature service, held at Uvas Canyon Park! This Shabbat will include a nature-themed short prayer service with many songs, a vegetarian potluck and schmooze, and an optional group or individual hike. Shabbat in Nature is sponsored by the Ritual Committee. Parking is $6. Meet at the Amphitheater and look for the sign.
Community Events
On the Table Housing Discussion
Tuesday, October 23rd at 7:00 PM
On this day, hundreds of small groups across the valley will gather in conversation to discuss how we are all impacted by housing challenges and what steps we can take to create a community where we all belong. Women's Philanthropy Annual Challah Making Event

Israel's Race to the Moon

Purple Stride Silicon Valley 2018

Ari Cohen, one of our congregants and a Religious School student, is fundraising to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer as part of his Bar Mitzvah project. How can you help?
  1. Join the Purple Stride Walk to End Pancreatic Cancer or donate to our team by clicking here. The walk will be held in downtown San Jose on Saturday, November 3 at 10:30 AM.
  2. Stop by Peet's in Los Gatos - 798-1 Blossom Hill Road, in Kings Court Shopping Center on Saturday, October 20th from 9-11:30 AM. Ari is having a bake sale there with all proceeds going to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
  3. Stop by the Sisterhood Holiday Boutique at Temple Emanu-El on Sunday, November 11. There will be another bake sale that will benefit Ari’s and two other mitzvah projects.
Abrahamic Alliance Meal Service Program

Serve the poor while building bridges of peace and understanding in a context of compassion. Temple Emanu-El, Peninsula Bible Church Cupertino, and Evergreen Islamic Center invite you to prepare and serve a hot and hearty meal to the poor of San Jose. Volunteers must be age 13 or older.  Register now by clicking here . Hillel of Silicon Valley Speaker - Sasson "Sassy" Reuven

Please join the Students Supporting Israel club at San Jose State University and Hillel of Silicon Valley as we welcome Sasson "Sassy" Reuven to retell the story of his experience during the Raid on Entebbe. Sassy is a veteran of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), who served in the IDF's elite “Red Beret” paratrooper unit. Operation Raid on Entebbe was a counter-terrorist hostage-rescue mission carried out by commandos of the IDF at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on July 4, 1976.
