Library Closure - How to Find the Latest Info
During this past week of holidays and severe storms, the library ended up being closed for the better part of a week. This seems to be a good time to review how we communicate such information to the public.
Holidays throughout the year are listed on our website  here. For easy access, there is now a link to this page from the hours shown on our home page. This January we will be closed Monday/Tuesday, Jan. 1 and 2 for the New Year holiday and then again on Monday, Jan, 15 to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.
As for weather-related closure, we try to get this information out in as many places as possible. We post a notice on our website, on Facebook, and we change our phone message reflecting the closure.... (more)

Paint Vermont - Rae Newell
The Mezzanine Gallery at the NWPL presents Paint Vermont, work by Rae Newell.
Rae attended Univ. of Hartford Art School, studied for 5 years under Warren Prosperi of Boston, studying the techniques of the old masters. Then she studied for 3 years under Foster Cadell of Southern Connecticut, studying color theory and painting techniques of the impressionists. Rae has enjoyed teaching painting for 25 years, currently teaching at ArtisTree in Pomfret.
Exhibit available during regular library hours, Jan. 2 through Feb. 14. (more)

I.T. Help at Thompson Senior Center
NWPL Director of Technology Meg Brazill is offering individual help to people desiring assistance with their laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. Contact the Thompson Senior Center to sign up for a 45-minute slot of time. Bring the device along with you and Meg will work with you to straighten things out and learn about some tools and tricks. This event is jointly sponsored by the Thompson Senior Center and the NWPL . Party for Dave Sullivan
Over the past five years, Dave Sullivan has worn many hats at the Norman Williams Public Library. He has been widely connected within the Woodstock community. He has now moved to a new town, where he is sure to be trying on new hats. But o n Saturday, January 13, Dave will return to NWPL for a Party on the Mezz so we can give him a proper send-off . . . and maybe a surprise or two. Come by the library for more details, and be sure to put January 13 on your calendar.

NWPL Board of Trustees Meeting
The NWPL Board of Trustees meets on the third Monday of each month at 5:15 p.m. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend these open public meetings. A time for public comments is included in each meeting. Click here to learn more about the board.

Weatherization  Woodstock Pomfret Bridgewater Pizza Party
Weatherize Woodstock Pomfret Bridgewater teams up Woodstock Energy Group volunteers with Vital Communities, Efficiency Vermont, and local home energy contractors to help residents in our towns save money and stay warm by weatherizing their homes. The program provides free professional home energy assessments, proposals, and quotes. Learn about the program at our pizza party!  (more)

2nd Friday Book Group:  The Nest 
by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney
After The Glass Castle and the Bardo, Amanda and the Second Friday Book Group will spend January in a lighter place with  The Nest, by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney:  A warm, funny and acutely perceptive debut novel about four adult siblings and the fate of the shared inheritance that has shaped their choices and their lives.

Howards End was first published in 1910. Accounted by many to be Forster's best book, Howards End concerns social conventions and relationships in turn-of-the-century England.  Emma Thompson won an Academy Award for best actor in the 1992 Merchant-Ivory movie adaptation.    (more...)
Book Sale!
Thanks to Mac, our fabulous, tireless volunteer, we have an ongoing book sale in the front foyer of the library.
Feel free to bring books in good salable condition into the library anytime we are open. We are happy to give you a tax donation receipt. 
Income we receive from the book sale is a significant contributor to the operating budget of the library. We greatly appreciate your generosity!

Baby & Toddler Story Time

This story time features short stories, interspersed with songs and finger plays and runs for about 20 minutes. It is geared for children ages birth to three years.


Tuesdays, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.
Pre-school Storytime

This session features three thematically-related stories and a tie-in craft or activity. This session runs for about 45 minutes. Geared for children ages 3-5 years.

Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. - Noon
Weekly Cribbage Game

Do you cribbage? Would you like to learn? Come join us! Every week, the Norman Williams Public Library welcomes cribbage players of all abilities to play and enjoy the company of other area players. (more)

Story & Yoga Time with Angel
Join The North Chapel Spiritual Exploration for Children and Families Committee in a WEEKLY series "Story & Yoga Time with Angel Rubino" at the NWPL. This is a free weekly series that will include a story, yoga, movement, meditation and more!
Appropriate for ages 2-6 with caregiver/family.

Thursday Afternoon Knitting Group
Knitters are invited to meet on the Mezzanine of NWPL every Thursday afternoon. All knitters are welcome - from beginners to experts. We will knit together, learn together and provide each other assistance when needed. Plan to bring your current project, knitting questions or problems, or a pattern to share.    (more info...)

Breastfeeding Support Group
 
La Leche League breastfeeding support group is free and open to all mothers (and soon to be mothers!) who would like to discuss breastfeeding related issues or to just get together with other mothers.

Qigong with Gerry Sandweiss
In Qigong, your awareness is awakened in the first lesson and benefits accrue immediately. When practiced, Qigong helps to reawaken our sense of joy.  No equipment needed except one's body.  Gerry Sandweiss has been a student and practitioner Qigong for fifteen years. Classes will be held Saturday mornings at 8:30. Classes held on the NWPL mezzanine - enter through back door of library.  Please wear loose clothing and bring a mat and notebook. These classes are suitable for everyone, regardless of age or ability.    (more info...)
