St. Michael's Academy
 :

We celebrated the feast of St. Luke this week with a Mass celebrated by Fr. Ryan Rooney from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and hosted by our 6th grade class. Fr. Ryan spoke to the students of how St. Luke was not only one of the four gospel writers, but also was a good friend to Jesus and never turned his back on Him. He reminded everyone about the importance of being a good friend to Jesus.

And later on that night, the ghosts and scary monsters were out at St. Michael's Academy.  Not in the classrooms (haha) but out in the parking lot as we held our annual Trunk or Treat event! The students really had a great time and the parents outdid themselves with their cars. Thank you to all who helped to make it a fun night.

I hope the students enjoyed their day off from school today.

God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade.  Congrats to this week's winners!

Integrating Technology

Hello! My name is Mrs. Allison Croteau, and I am a 6th and 7th grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher. It is my pleasure to be returning to Saint Michael's Academy for a second year. Despite the slow start to this school year with the heat, my students and I have been hard at work. My 6th grade ELA class recently wrapped up our first grammar unit about punctuation, while my 7th graders finished up the first vocabulary unit.

As the end of a unit approaches, my students and I enjoy brainstorming new ways in which to review the material before an assessment. This time around, we took the approach of integrating technology into our review. Using our classroom Smartboard, my 6th graders played an interactive Jeopardy style game, in which students could come up to the board, click on the desired question to answer, and then guide their teammates to the correct answer. Pictured below is team captain, Anna, contemplating the answer.

Similarly to my 6th graders, my 7th graders suggested a relay race type of game, in which teams could go up to the board, define a vocabulary word, and tap the word to reveal the definition to compare their answer. The team with the most words correctly defined won! Pictured below is an action shot of the game!

It has certainly been an exciting start to the school year. I am looking forward to seeing what new ideas my students and I will come up with this year!

 School Mass

Celebrating The Feast of St. Luke

We attended Mass this week in honor of the Feast of St. Luke.  Thank you Fr. Ryan Rooney for celebrating Mass with us and for reminding us about the meaning of a true friend.  And thank you grade 6 students and choir for doing a great job serving, reading and singing!

East Forest Park Library

The official groundbreaking event took place this week on Monday for the new East Forest Park Library.  Two of our students were given the opportunity to help put the shovel in the ground for this exciting event!

The library will address all of the neighborhood's needs with quadruple the space for book and media collections, technology access, a large community room, dedicated space for teens, accommodations for adult learners and a spacious children's department.  The Library will be located next to the Mary A. Dryden Veterans Memorial School on Surrey road - just a short walk from SMA!

for Eucharistic Adoration and recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy each Wednesday from 4-5:15 p.m.

Come and pray in Adoration, Thanksgiving, Petition or "just be" with the Lord.  We welcome you for an hour or a few minutes for this special time with God.

Also At Holy Cross

Altar Server Ministry

Ever consider becoming an altar server? We would like to invite you to join this ministry.

This is a wonderful learning experience for our young members of the parish. They learn about their faith and take on responsibility. The assistance of young people as altar servers at Mass is a ministry of great importance at Holy Cross Church. They help facilitate a reverent flow to the liturgy.

If you are a member of our parish, and your child would like to become a server, we welcome youth starting in grade 3 and up, who have made their First Communion. This is an excellent way for Catholic girls and boys to appreciate our great ritual of the Eucharist in faith and fellowship.

Training sessions will be provided and announced at a later date. If you are interested, please contact Maureen at 413-783-6428 for further information.

Prayer Corner

St. Michael the Arch angel, pray for us!

We pray for all St. Michael's Academy students, families, faculty, and staff, and their special intentions.

And we pray in a special way for our recently departed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
