MAHALO FROM ANIMAL BALANCE
All Saints' Receives Thank You Note and Donation

Animal Balance hosted spay/neuter clinics

. Their goal was to sterilize 70 percent of cats in the community colonies, which would trigger an evening out and then eventual shrinking of the population. It’s part of an ongoing, community-based effort to manage the feral cat, or community cat population — those cats that don’t have owners, and Animal Balance is working with Kauai Community Cat Project to get the job done.

THIS WEEK IN SUNDAY SCHOOL
God Frees God’s People
|
|
The finger of God “passes over” the specially marked doors of the Israelites while sending the tenth plague into the houses of the Egyptians, killing their firstborn sons. As a result, the Israelites are freed from slavery.
Under the leadership of Moses, whom God called to free the Israelites from bondage in Egypt, the Israelites find themselves at the shores of the Red Sea, with the Egyptian army behind them. As they cry out in despair and panic, God commands Moses to lift his arms, and the sea parts on both sides. The whole camp of the Israelites—hundreds of thousands of men, women and children walk on dry land to the other side of the sea.
The Egyptian army thunders behind them, ready to overtake the people and to kill them. When the last person has crossed the Red Sea, Moses turns around and again lifts his arms. The sea closes in on the army and drowns them. The people are free.

HOLY CROSS DAY
Celebrating Christ’s Redeeming Death On A Cross
|
|
On September 14
th
, the church celebrates Holy Cross Day in honor of Christ’s self-offering on the cross for our salvation. This feast day is also known in some churches as the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross. It was one of the 12 great feasts in the Byzantine liturgy and remains a major feast day for the Episcopal Church.
The celebration of the Holy Cross occurs on September 14
th
to commemorate the consecration of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on that day in 335 by the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. Constantine’s mother, Saint Helena, is said to have discovered the True Cross during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and Constantine built the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on the site of her discovery. A portion of the Cross is said to have been placed inside the church.
The legend also tells of Persians carrying away that portion of the cross in 614 and that it remained missing until 628, when the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius recaptured it and returned it to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
As “An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church” (Church Publishing, 2000) points out, “Although the authenticity of alleged relics of the cross may be questionable, Holy Cross Day provides an opportunity for a joyous celebration of Christ’s redeeming death on a cross.”
Collect for Holy Cross Day
Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world to himself: Mercifully grant that we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Our personal response to God's generosity in the way we share our resources of time, talent, and money. Stewardship reflects our commitment to making God's love known through the realities of human life and our use of all that God has given us. It is also our service to God's world and our care of creation. Parish members are encouraged to make an annual stewardship pledge. This pledge represents their specific Christian commitment to "work, pray, and give for the spread of the kingdom of God" (BCP, p. 856).

STEWARDSHIP PRAYERS FOR GENEROSITY
Sharing God's Gifts
|
|
Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already.
– C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
|
|
As we prepare for the Fall, it is a good time to reflect and pray on the many blessings God has bestowed on us. I would like to share the following prayers in the hope that they will be as meaningful to you as they are to me.
Nelson Secretario
|
|
Dear Lord,
Teach me to be generous as You have been generous with me. Teach me that all I am and have are gifts from You. And gifts, Lord, are meant to be shared. Show me the joys of generosity. Help me to understand that others, perhaps unknown to me, depend on me for help. Remind me that my world, my parish, need “Good Samaritans” to heal the wounds of our times. Make me a gift to others in Your name. Amen.
Lord Jesus,
You came to show us that the meaning of life consists in giving. You told us that those who cling too tightly to what they have — without thought of You or other — end up losing everything. You offered us new values by which to measure the worth of a person’s life. Help us to realize it is not temporal success or riches or fame that gives life meaning. Rather, it is the service rendered to You and others that brings fulfillment and makes our lives worthwhile. May all our service help build the kingdom of God, and may our obedience bring true freedom, our generosity increase love, our sacrifices bear much fruit, and our death lead to eternal life. Amen.
