1. Our first national mindfulness for lawyers conference on Aug. 3 was a huge success.
We had more than 100 attending live or by webcast, and all participants were eligible for 6.5 hours of general, ethics, and substance abuse CLE credits through the state of Illinois.
The presentations were fantastic – especially the lunch keynote by Federal District Judge Ricardo Urbina (ret.) and talk by Dr. Judson Brewer on the science behind mindfulness and addiction to bad habits. We will be posting the presentations on our website for free viewing after they are edited, probably around September 15.
Congratulations and thanks to Conference Chair Donn Kessler, who put together a first-class conference, ran it smoothly and graciously, and kept it within budget.
2. Local MILS chapters are beginning to form in four locations: Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh, and Maryland/District of Columbia.
If you live in these areas and are interested in getting involved, please contact
Julie Sandine
and she will put you in touch with organizers in the area. Also contact Julie if you do not live in one of these areas, but are interested in finding out about starting a local MILS chapter in your area.
3. Want to get involved in the Mindfulness in Law Society?
The Mindfulness in Law Society has volunteer leadership opportunities for people who have time and passion for the mindfulness in law movement. Particular needs include financial, organizational, and technological skills, but there is plenty else to do.
This is a great opportunity at a great time with a leading national organization, especially for people who want to shift some of their time into more fulfilling work that brings their professional skills, experience, and energies more into alignment with their personal values.
