Weekend Lineup
Czech Fests, Oktoberfest, BestFest, We All Fest!
It's another festive weekend, although the weather may dampen the lederhosen just a tad. Here's your menu:
Heritage Fest & Muziky, Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center, La Grange. All music will be moved inside Pavilion Hall, starting with Friday night's Polka On! Octoberfest with the Dujka Brothers. Jerry Haisler & Melody 5 and Enzian Buam will play inside the hall on Saturday, and the Muziky performance honoring the Vrazels' Polka Band will be inside the hall as well. You still have all the great music, food, cold beverages, and the main center will be open with museum exhibits, genealogy help, and demonstrations. The Czech Village however, will be closed.
Anhalt Oktoberfest, historic Anhalt Hall, Spring Branch, TX. Everything's indoors so you're safe. Enjoy music by Rennie Guenther & Happy Travelers, Ennis Czech Boys, Justin Trevino.
BestFest, Marktplatz, Fredericksburg. There's a roof over this fest, too. Dance to Dutch Treat, Fritz Hodde & Fab 6, and Weldon Henson.
CzechFest in the Heights, SPJST Lodge 88, Houston. The majority of the activities take place in the Chandelier Ballroom - performances by SPJST Orchestra & Czech Chorus, Al Sulak & Country Sounds, Adrian's Fault (outside in the gazebo, weather permitting). Food Trucks: Harold's Restaurant & Tap Room, Balls Out Burger, Twirl Treats, and Rita's Italian Ice, and kolaches from Kolache Shoppe. Lots of activities for kids, including Halloween costume contest.
Cesky Vecer, Saengerrunde Hall, Austin. Enjoy dinner and music by Kovanda's Czech Band. Advance tickets required, so call 512-346-5254 to see if they still have seats available.

WEEKLY LAUGH
Have you ever wondered why wearing earrings became so popular with men?
Here's the scoop on this growing trend:
A man is at work one day when he notices that his co-worker is wearing an earring.
The man knows his co-worker to be a normally conservative fellow, and is curious about his sudden change in "fashion sense," so he walks up to him and says, "I didn't know you were into earrings."
"Don't make such a big deal, it's only an earring," the man replies sheepishly.
His friend falls silent for a few minutes, but then his curiosity prods him to ask,  "So, how long have you been wearing one?"
"Ever since my wife found it in my truck."
