PTA After-School Programs Have Begun!
Registration is open and it is not too late to join!

This year the PTA is sponsoring some returning favorites. Our After School Programs teach music and dance from Spain, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. These classes offer our students an opportunity to expand their appreciation of culture and diversity, all taught in Spanish!
All classes are from 3:35pm to 4:45pm, in the Puesta del Sol gym. Session 1 runs October 8 - November 16. The Drama Club (open to 4th and 5th grade students) uses the gym mid-November to mid-January, then Session 2 will begin on January 21.

Additional after school programs are available on our After School Programs page
Save the Date: Drama Club 2018-19 Auditions

First mandatory all cast rehearsal is Thursday, November 29! Cast members need to be available at least 2 days/week for rehearsal M, Tu, Th, F and make all mandatory dates (11/29-30 and 1/14-19). Movie Night, Friday, Nov. 2
Join us for our first Movie Night of the School Year - Disney's "Coco."
Friday, November 2, in the Puesta del Sol Gym. Doors open @ 6pm.

During this FREE Family Community Event, we'll be showing Disney's "Coco" in Spanish (with English subtitles). This is a great way for your child to earn Spanish Outside of School (SOS) hours, while having a great time with friends and family. There will be popcorn and water, as well as Bake Sale items, to keep us munching while we watch this fun movie filled with music, family, and adventure. Outside food is also welcome, but in respect to Puesta del Sol's general policy, we ask that all outside food is both Peanut and Tree Nut Free to help keep this safe for all participants.

Doors will open at 6pm so that people can come early and grab a spot prior to the  movie starting at 6:30pm. We suggest bringing blankets, pillows and/or low beach chairs ( please no higher camp chairs so that everyone will have a chance to see). We can't wait for you to join us!

Please keep in mind, as with all of our PTA Family events, THIS IS NOT A DROP-OFF EVENT, and all children should be accompanied by an adult responsible for them during the entire time.   For questions, please email [email protected].
Renew Your PTA Membership! New Members Welcome!
There is still time to renew your PTA membership or become a new member. Be a part of the largest grass-roots non-profit organization dedicated solely to children in Washington State and the country. A quality public school education is not free. While we receive state funding for some of the basics, we rely on our PTA and Bellevue Schools Foundation to cover the "extras" that make our school exceptional. As a member of the PTA, you have a voice in how we use our funds.

PTA members have access to the online school directory via the PTA website, may vote at PTA meetings, and receive various additional local and national benefits - review the PTA Member Benefits page on our website. Renew or join today!

Staff Spotlight
First Grade Team
This cohesive team of teachers is unmatched and well loved. They bring an average of 17 years of teaching experience to Puesta del Sol and have a love for the Spanish language and for family and travel. Our school community is lucky to have them!
Sra. Jeanine Medina was raised in Yakima, WA and has a Biligual-Bicultural Education major from the U.W and now has an impressive 34 years of teaching experience. She loves to read, garden, and camp.
Sra. Maria Fletcher is close behind with 26 years of teaching experience. She was born in Seattle and at the age of 7 her family moved to their original country of origin - Colombia; she once again calls Seattle "home." Her son will graduate from Newport High School this year. She loves her cat "Dulce" (must be a "sweet" cat) and likes to collect dolls from around the world.
Sra. Miriam Lopez-Kimball was raised in a Spanish speaking home as her family was originally from Mexico. Her children are in the ISA program here at Puesta del Sol and Tillicum Middle School. She enjoys reading, dancing, playing board games, and watching movies.
Sra. Claudia Mattson was born in Pachuca, Hidalgo Mexico and moved to the U.S. in 2001. She is married to Sr. Mattson (fourth grade), has been part of our Puesta del Sol community since 2003, and a teacher at our school since 2014. The Mattsons are a mainstay at Puesta del Sol events as well as at Tillicum Middle School and Sammamish High School sporting and school events where their 2 daughters attend our ISA program. The Mattson family loves making fun memories together and travels back to Mexico yearly.

Garden Club Needs You!

Join the outdoor fun on Thursday afternoons during both second recess sessions (1:55-2:10pm and 2:10-2:25pm). We generally suspend Garden Club from mid-November through mid-March, then start back up in the spring. For more information, email Liz at schoolgarden@

It is with very heavy hearts that the PTA announces the Spanish Outside School (S.O.S.) program will not occur this Fall since we lack a parent volunteer to oversee the program. We
hope to be able to offer this fun, educational and FREE program after Winter break, but it will depend upon having a Chair - 3rd, 4th & 5th grade parents, we are looking to you! Any questions can be sent to EdEnhancement@
