2018-2019 Table Officers Acclaimed 
 
The following 2018-19 table officers were acclaimed at Convention on Wednesday: President, Councillor Arjun Singh (City of Kamloops); 1st Vice President, Mayor Maja Tait (District of Sooke); 2nd Vice President, Mayor Sharon Gaetz  (City of Chilliwack).   
Implementing Codes of Conduct  
 
Convention delegates considered ways councils and boards might effectively implement codes of conduct in a clinic Wednesday. Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall and Fraser Valley Regional District CAO Paul Gipps emphasized that the very process of developing codes of conduct helps to build cohesion and a common understanding among councils and boards. Land-Use for Housing People Can Afford 
 
Representatives from the Province and BC Housing led delegates in a session exploring land-use tools available to local governments to support the development of affordable housing and rental housing in their communities in a session today. Read More

Partnerships Responding to the Opioid Crisis
 
Delegates explored new partnerships that have been developed to respond to the challenges posed by the opioid crisis. These approaches focus on the need to eliminate the stigma associated with drug addiction and the development of deeper understanding of addiction as primarily a health issue. Read More  
Take Action on Climate Change: Weaver
 
BC Green Party Leader, Dr. Andrew Weaver, implored the UBCM membership to hear and respond to the abundance of scientific warnings and to work to renew the foundations of BC's economy in the face of the deepening climate crisis. Read More 
Communities Recognized for Use of Wood
 
Leadership in structural and architectural wood use by local governments was recognized today at the UBCM Convention in Whistler. Wood WORKS BC presented five local governments with 2018 Community Recognition Awards for use of wood in their community projects . The awards are presented annually to BC communities that have been exemplary advocates for wood. Read More
