This Week at St. Paul's
Join the Wise Ones at the manger this Sunday, celebrating the light of Christ. We will also celebrate January Birthdays and Anniversaries in church, and at coffee hour. Bring a guest, and gifts to offer this child who will see us through another year together, in peace.
Rector's Notes:
O ur continuing  Advent/Christmas and now Epiphany journey from darkness to light finds its liturgical conclusion this Sunday with the arrival of those wise and inquiry  persons who came from the east seeking the mystery  revealed to them by a star--the mystery of a new "king" born to serve the people of Israel.  Our Creche will be complete with the Magis' arrival.  Join us this Sunday as we celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation and begin our own journey to discover the full meaning of the revelation that caused the Magi to celebrate and instilled fear in the heart to Herod.

Please join me in reading Paul's Epistle to the Romans during Epiphany.  Click here for the reading plan for this series.  Let me know if you will be reading with me.  This reading series starts on Monday, January 7.  Here is what Bishop Curry has to say about this project:

Have you ever wondered about our Food Ministry* impact on Midtown?

1) In 2017 your food ministries distributed about 450,000 pounds of food from various food resources.

2) Using standard formulas used to calculate these things, we provided about 375,000 meals to our client community.

3) With a total food ministry budget of about $45,000 we leveraged almost $800,000 dollars worth of food to our Midtown client community.

This is what you make possible when you
financially support St. Paul's Parish!

Coffee Hour Hosts
Please Let Alison know

January 6 - Parish Life - Birthday Sunday
January 13 - ????
January 20 - ????
January 27 - ????

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other St. Paul's members! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks. An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn. If you have questions or wish to co-host with another member, please contact  Alison.  Dates are available.

verse of the week

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

- Ephesians 4:32

voice of the week

Love is what carries you, for it is always there, even in the dark, or most in the dark, but shining out at times like gold stitches in a piece of embroidery.

- Wendell Berry

prayer of the week

Enlighten the eyes of our hearts, O Lord, so we may not only see and receive your mercy but also notice the places in our world where you call us to extend mercy. Amen.
thought of the week
Ger Koopman
Often people think they are lost. They think that nothing in the world can help them. And then God looks and says, "It is time." And all at once everything looks different. Everything comes into a different light, and all at once you see that all is not lost, but won. Remember this, all is not lost in his eyes. "The lowly shall be lifted up, the first shall be last."

Information about your 2019
Mission and Ministry Pledge:
Every year, in response to the many and great gifts God freely bestows upon us, we are all invited to make a pledge to the financial support of St. Paul's Parish.
Our gifts become a witness in the world of this parish's response to God's call to us to be a faithful community serving all God's creation.
The ministries of St. Paul's depend upon the financial support of its members and other interested persons.  In order for the Vestry to make good decisions on how to manage our resources, we invite you to make a financial commitment to our parish for 2019.  You can use the link bleow to make your pledge or contact the  Church Office for a paper pledge form.
Thank you for your support financially, for your participation, and by remembering our efforts in your prayers.
