4th Annual Canton Family Fun Day - July 21
Hundreds of people came out for a day of fun, games, and Chinese food in the park!

A Big Thank You to all the volunteers for making the day a success!

ACA's Cultural Education Summer Camp
ACA's Cultural Education Summer Camp is currently in full swing! Over 80 children are participating in this year's camp, which runs from July 16-August 3 in Canton. So far campers have: made dumplings, practiced calligraphy, learned dance and martial arts, went on a field trip to the Chinese Community Center, learned about gardening, visited the DIA, and even met the Mayor of Madison Heights!

News & Recaps
The 2018 OCA National Convention, held in Washington DC from July 19-22, was a successful gathering for the many OCA chapters from across the country.

We received two 2nd place awards for Chapter Excellence in Programs & Projects and in Membership Growth ! For the best chapter award , we came in third.

CCC Capital Campaign Update
To date, we have raised $19,305 , putting us over halfway to our Phase One goal of $30,000.

Comcast Digital Connectors Graduation
On Sunday, June 10, 2018, 14 middle & high school students graduated from the Comcast Digital Inclusion Program, held at the Chinese Community Center. Throughout the program, the students were educated in digital literacy and responsibility, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy with the use of EverFi’s online curriculum.

ACA Marched in Madison Heights Memorial Day Parade
On the morning of Saturday, May 26, 2018, the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) participated in the Madison Heights Memorial Day Parade, marching to honor fallen soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in support of American freedom. 

This fall, University of Michigan students can intern at ACA through ACA President Roland Hwang's class on minority non-profits.

Please pass this opportunity along to interested students!

Coming ACA Events & Programs

The mission of these classes is to provide training to women in under-served minority populations, particularly to combat domestic violence and serve survivors of domestic violence.

Registration is currently open and classes will begin the first week of August.

Townhall Meeting Tobacco Use and Safety In the Asian Community

ACA recently partnered with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service (MDHHS) and other organizations to conduct a Michigan Asian Tobacco Usage Survey. Now ACA would like to share the survey results with the community. Come join us!
 Mark your calendars  [September 15]  for the second annual Healthy Gardening Fair at the Chinese Community Center! 

This outdoor community health event will feature results from the winter melon growing competition, health workshops, food and drink booths, and much more. Join us in promoting healthy living in the Asian American community.

Community and Other News
All of Us   is a new research program from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goal is to advance precision medicine. Asian Americans have historically been under-represented in health care programs and research.  All of Us  has a goal to create awareness and increase participation in the Asian American population to close the health disparities gap they face.
