Bits and Pieces
September 11, 2018

Katie (the Irish/golden retriever) and I were watching TV the other night when we heard someone talk about the "dog days" of summer.  That perked up Ms. Katie's ears, and I hoped she wouldn't ask me what, exactly, that meant, because I really don't know.  But I've heard the term since I was a kid, and I know what it means, but I really can't define what it means.  Sort of like when you're looking for a specific fabric, you can't exactly describe it, but you know it when you see it!  (How come everything relates back to quilting?!?!)  So Katie came up with her own scenario for the term.  It goes like this:  She wakes up in the middle or on my side of the king sized bed, thumps her Irish tail as hard and fast as she can, then seems surprised that she's woken me up!  Well, if I'm awake, it's time for tummy rubs, isn't it?  Then it's time to rattle everyone's cage because it's morning and time to go play outside...with Emi, Willie and Buddy, of course.  So now we're ALL awake.  Her first stop is to see Ditto the Horse and bark at her, run the yard and chase anything out that dared to enter her domain, and bark to come back in so I can serve her breakfast.  Doesn't really care if the others eat or not, just so SHE has food!

Time then to go back and play outside, chase Emi Lee for a while, then settle down on the leather couch, all stretched out so no one can join her, for a nice snooze.  As I get ready for work, she reminds me that she hasn't had her "good girl cookies" yet, and I'd better snap to it!  Then back for a snooze until I return.  Then she pretty much repeats all of the above, since she's gotten hot on the couch and moved back to the bed, with the overhead fan gently blowing her long red hair.  I'm there as a convenience for her, to make her smile, and do her beckoning whenever the mood strikes.  All in all, I'd say she has like all figured out!  And I'm pretty sure she's not the only one who's managed to wrap the mom around her little paw.....ask your kids, and see if they don't have nearly the same definition for "dog days"!

And speaking of things that run, Antelope Canyon mini-camp is scheduled for Wed. and Thursday, and there's still seating available.  Jan has taken a lot of the thinking/sizing/placement work out of the pattern for you, to make this wonderful pattern manageable and even easy for color placement.  If you love the pattern, and you have a few choices to make in placement, do yourself a favor and take her class!  She even graphed out the color patterns for you!

Judy's Junkies is Friday with Mary.  We haven't had a fun bag class in a while, so Joan's teaching " Dinner For Two" on Sat.  This is the pattern that is absolutely perfect for tailgaters, picnickers, hikers who wish to grab a bite and enjoy the sights.  Everything you need for an outing is included-placemats, napkins, pockets for glasses and dishes, the water or wine, and more all in one bag!

Joan's back on Sunday, noon-4, with Beginning Applique.  Make it fun, make it easy, make it yours.  Learn the tricks!

Mary's Scrap Happy BOM begins on Monday, and it is currently full.  But patterns are available, and if requested, we will try to bring it back early 2019!  Let us know if you're interested so we can start a list.  You will almost for sure learn at least one new technique!

LeAnn is back after her summer hiatus, to teach Fiberworks.....you choose your own pattern design from a large selection.  We will gladly place your orders for you for this on-going, two day class.  Plus we have them available on the pattern wall.  Love the free and easy technique, and no sewing until the front  is completed.  Just have fun with these patterns!  Some of the patterns are even being made in a smaller size, with just as much detail.  Talk with LeAnn about these!  Also ask her about all of her award-winning traveling quilts in some prestigious quilt shows!  We're very proud of her, and proud to have her as a fabulous teacher for many upcoming classes.  Come check us out for samples.

She's back again on Wed. teaching " All Through the House ".  The quilt is comprised of only 4 blocks, with detailing in the windows and doors.  It's a very striking quilt, I think; see her sample in the classroom!

Check out the Half Square Triangle quilt from Mary, and get signed for the 3 day class.  The great Bloc-Loc Ruler is required, but there is no pattern.  Day one will include handouts, reference materials, and many ways to make a half square triangle, all contained in Mary's sample.  Day 2 is mainly assembly day and making the layout that most pleases your eye, and day three is sewing the top together.  Learn the ways to cut and assemble the HSQ, then assemble and make away!  You'll be so intrigued that you'll make many of these quilts and each will look different!  Great for gifts too!  The holidays are a-comin' kids!
