My name is Lauren Trujillo and it is my honor to introduce myself as the new Foundation Director of the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation. I
have a passion for libraries and I am committed to building our local Library. I first came to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB where I studied History. I have had the opportunity to work with several nonprofits and organizations in Santa Barbara including the Isla Vista Memorial Project, the Santa Barbara Mission Archive-Library, the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.
I also sit on the board for the Santa Barbara Women's Literary Festival and volunteer with the nonprofit Self Enquiry Life Fellowship in Montecito. As Gift Operations Manager at SFMOMA I managed over 60,000 members and assisted with the re-opening campaign after a three-year closure.
My background in nonprofit fundraising is diverse and aligns with the needs of the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation. Santa
Barbara is rich with history and philanthropy and I am committed to giving our Library the critical support it needs to serve our community.
I am
proud to call Santa Barbara home
and truly consider it paradise. Our community is one of a kind and is constantly giving. A project that has been near to my heart is the Isla Vista Memorial Project I assisted with as a student and where I continue to volunteer. Following the May 23, 2014 Isla Vista tragedy the archive in partnership with the UCSB Library, was able to preserve items left at memorial sites and support the healing and resilience of the community. Since working with the project, I have seen the power of libraries and the larger
impact community members can make together
.
I am currently finishing my Masters at UCLA in Library and Information Science and feel my background in nonprofits and knowledge of libraries will contribute to the positive growth of the Foundation. Building from the success of the Children's Library Campaign, the Foundation is prepared to continue inspiring the capital projects that will allow our Library to become a world class library. The Plaza Project will revitalize the outside of the Library and open doors to the life-changing work happening inside the Library.
As we enter the next chapter for the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation I am pleased to work with our Board to coordinate the support of our great Library. Let's open doors together and unite our community at its center.
I look forward to meeting you,
Lauren Trujillo
