Mayor Gutierrez Welcomes Industry Leaders to Industrial, Retail Conference in Moreno Valley

The City of Moreno Valley hosted "The Intersection of Industrial and Retail in the Inland Empire Conference."
The event convened a standing room only audience of over 300 top industry leaders to explore current and future trends in the rapidly growing industrial market in the Inland Empire and the unique challenges and opportunities facing the retail and shopping center development community.
“Moreno Valley is the perfect location to explore the intersection of retail and industrial development,” said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez. “Innovative companies choose Moreno Valley for our land, access to key markets and award-winning incentives.” During his welcome address, the Mayor cited city innovations in government and job creation incentives for the City’s economic growth, such as the Hire MoVal program, which encourages Moreno Valley companies to hire residents. Through Hire MoVal, companies are eligible to receive incentives such as utility rate discounts, business license fee waivers, and hiring assistance. The City also created the Hire A Grad program offering up to $5,000 per company to encourage businesses to hire recent grads. The Mayor also cited the City’s unprecedented job growth of 14,000 jobs created in the past four years.
The conference held on January 23, 2017, featured a panel-style format with moderated topics such as economic development, current retail trends and the future of industrial development. Panelists included executives and members from top development and real estate firms in the industry such as Lewis Management Corp., Prologis, Marcus & Millichap, The Bradco Companies, The Mills (A Simon Company), CBRE, Highland Fairview, Majestic Realty Co., Progressive Real Estate Companies and Stirling Development.
During the conference, event planners asked industry leaders to use the Inland Empire as a lens to provide insights on national trends such as how to balance the growth of e-commerce in the industrial sector with increased consumer demand for unique shopping and entertainment experiences in the retail space.
The panels also included a robust conversation about how new advances in technology such as automation, driverless trucks and the internet of things impact communities and the local workforce. The event was held in the Grand Valley Ballroom at the Moreno Valley Conference and Recreation Center, an 8,200 square foot facility located at 14075 Frederick Street.

Emerging Leaders Council Volunteers to Keep Moreno Valley Beautiful

The City of Moreno Valley is pleased to announce that the Emerging Leaders Council (ELC) has volunteered to Keep Moreno Valley Beautiful by participating in the Adopt-a-Road program.
The Adopt-A-Road and Sponsor-A-Street programs support the City’s Keep Moreno Valley Beautiful initiative through the promotion of an active and engaged community where we work together to beautify our shared environment.
The Mission of the ELC is to serve, connect, and empower youth and young adults to become future leaders while making a difference in the community. The ELC is a seven-member council under the leadership of Council Member Ulises Cabrera. They will work together to keep adopted street segments clean and litter free.
The ELC officially adopted the west and east sides of Cottonwood Avenue from Heacock Street to Graham Street. The adopted segments equate to approximately one mile and will be cleaned by this group of eager volunteers on a quarterly basis in 2018. Clean ups are planned for March, June, September, and December. Moreno Valley High School students can join the quarterly ELC clean-ups by contacting Moreno Valley's staff liaison at

Moreno Valley Elevates Residents with Hike to the Top
|
The Parks and Community Services Department is sponsoring FREE hikes to promote awareness and appreciation of trails and hiking opportunities in and around Moreno Valley.
Join us Saturday, January 27, 2018, for the hike to Terri Peak. Hikers will meet at 7:30 a.m. in the front parking lot on the south side of Landmark Middle School. The school campus is located at 15261 Legendary Drive in Moreno Valley. The hike is approximately 7.8 miles round trip.
It is important to know your capabilities before you participate in a hike. If you need physical assistance, please bring a companion. The hike to Terri Peak is rated as "difficult." The hike will feature significant elevation gains and some challenging terrain.
Make sure to wear a comfortable pair of hiking boots, or walking shoes designed for good traction on and off road terrain. Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat as needed. Walking sticks may also be helpful during the hike.

Moreno Valley Police Department Participates in S.T.E.A.M. Expo

As part of the City's strong collaboration with local school districts, the Moreno Valley Police Department joined the Moreno Valley Unified School District for its first Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) Expo on January 20, 2018.
The S.T.E.A.M. Expo was filled with fun for students, parents, educators, and the community. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest technologies provided within Moreno Valley Unified School District's educational programs.
Members of the Moreno Valley Police Department brought law enforcement technology to the Expo, which included traffic radar, various enforcement vehicles, and other devices. Officers provided interactive
demonstrations of their state of the art technology. The Moreno Valley Police Department, students, teachers, and parents are already looking forward to next year's event.
