City to Host Two Town Halls
Focusing on Proposed Budget

The City of Moreno Valley will host two Town Halls to discuss the City's proposed budget for major programs for fiscal years 2017/18 and 2018/19.
These Town Halls are part of the City's continued efforts to seek public input and provide residents with information about the City's budget.
Town Hall Budget Meetings
Wednesday, April 12, 2017 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday, April 15, 2017 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.

The City's two-year General Fund budget is currently being developed to maintain a balanced budget which implements the City's "Momentum MoVal" strategic plan while ensuring ongoing costs are funded by ongoing revenues.
This spending plan will guide the City through its sixth consecutive year of financial stability.
The two Town Halls will provide additional opportunities for Moreno Valley residents to be part of the discussion on the City's long term financial priorities and the development of the proposed two-year budget. City staff will incorporate feedback they receive at these sessions into funding recommendations presented subsequently to the City Council for deliberation.

Moreno Valley Utility Receives National Honor for Reliability
|
Moreno Valley Utility recently received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability during 2016.
The American Public Power Association (APPA), a trade group in Washington, D.C. which represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities, honored Moreno Valley Utility (MVU) for its exceptional service.
MVU customers experienced an average outage of less than 4 minutes in 2016, far shorter than the 70 minute averages posted by the top performing 25% of utilities across the nation.
“This honor recognizes utilities that are thriving when it comes to reliability,” said APPA Senior Vice President, Engineering Services Michael Hyland.
APPA took MVU’s reliability data compiled through its eReliability Tracker Service and compared it to national reliability data collected by the Energy Information Administration—an independent agency that collects, analyzes and disseminates national energy data.
Projects such as the completion of the Kitching Substation and installation of circuits which tie the electric system together will help to maintain the excellent reliability record of Moreno Valley Utility.

2017 Public Safety Expo Draws Thousands
|
More than 4,000 people turned out to see Moreno Valley's bravest police officers and firefighters in action at the 2017 Public Safety Expo on Saturday, April 1.
Children and adults watched as firefighters dismantled cars using the Jaws of Life to simulate extricating a victim from a car crash.
The Moreno Valley Police Department's K-9s showed off how they chase down bad guys and help find lost children thorough scent.
And there were plenty of hands-on exhibits, displays, food, and giveaways.
We want to say thank you to all of our exhibitors, vendors and volunteers who helped make the Public Safety Expo a success and a special thank you to Amazon for donating hundreds of smoke detectors that were given to residents at the event.

Free Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Collection

Looking for a safe and free way to dispose of hazardous household waste?
Moreno Valley is holding a free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Electronic Waste (E-Waste) Collection Event on Saturday April 15.
Business or non‐profit waste will not be accepted. Residents are allowed to make multiple drop offs at the collection event, but are limited to 125 pounds or 15 gallons of material per trip. Individual containers should not exceed five gallons or weigh more than 50 pounds.

Saturday, April 15 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
City Yard, 15670 Perris Blvd
These items will be accepted:
- Household products (used chemicals, paint, pesticides, lightbulbs, etc.)
- Used motor oil, antifreeze, and fuel
- Household and automotive batteries
- Sharps (needles/syringes or lancets)
- Electronic waste (televisions, computers, VCRs, telephones, etc.)
These items will NOT be accepted:
- Explosives
- Radioactive waste
- Ammunition
- Asbestos waste
- Compressed gas cylinders over 40 pounds
- Infectious or medical waste (other than sharps)
- Bulky Items (sofas, mattresses, appliances, used tires, etc.)

"Be Our Guest" Tea Serves Up A Treat for Parents
|
Nearly 40 parents were waited on hand and foot by their children at A Child’s Place's first Spring Family Tea.
With a theme of “Be Our Guest,” children dressed up in aprons and chefs hats to serve their guests the perfect cup of homemade tea infused with fruit and an assortment of sandwiches and cookies.
Parents enjoyed tea and treats with their children while listening to the soundtrack of “Beauty and the Beast.”
A Child’s Place is a licensed after School program that provides daily homework assistance, arts and crafts, nutritious snacks, and recreation activities for children after school and during school breaks.
A Child's Place is open to kindergarteners through 12 years old. The program runs Monday – Friday after school until 6 p.m. During school breaks the program is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The cost for children to attend the program is based on family income. For more information please visit the City's website under the After School programs tab.

Office of Emergency Management Specialist Receives State Certification
|
Andrew Cheng, a program specialist for the Moreno Valley Office of Emergency Management, recently received his Emergency Management Specialist Certificate from the California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI), a division of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES).
CalOES is a national leader in emergency management and developed this certificate program to recognize individuals who successfully complete a series of rigorous and comprehensive professional courses in disaster management delivered through CSTI.
Students are required to complete more than 175 hours of class time in order to receive their emergency management specialist certification.
Andrew’s continued efforts to improve his skill set and ongoing contributions make him a valuable asset to the City’s residents and the Office of Emergency Management.
